Senior Product Designer

Assembly Four
Posted 3 hours ago
🇳🇿New Zealand🏠Remote📁Design
Is this job info correct?
We are Assembly Four, a fast growing, purpose-driven technology company dedicated to fostering positive change within the sex work, human rights, LGBTQIA+, and intersecting communities.

We operate on the belief that impact is as important as profit, and work in collaboration with sex workers from around the globe to develop products and services that empower them to thrive, not just survive.

Everyone should have the autonomy to make decisions about their bodies and sexual lives without fear of violence or discrimination. This is a fundamental human right – and one that sex workers are still fighting for.

If you're eager to join a remote-first team with diverse representation from sex worker, neurodivergent, disabled, and LGBTQIA+ communities, committed to advancing sex worker autonomy and liberation through advocacy and innovative products, read on.

The role

As a Senior Product Designer at Assembly Four, you work across the entire product design process from discovery to delivery, serving as a conduit between users and the Design, Product Management, and Engineering teams. You champion user needs across both our community-facing products and internal tools for the Assembly Four team, ensuring they’re aligned with broader business goals.

This role is working closely within a trio, as a leader of the team where you’ll be focused on enabling team effectiveness, strong design execution, cross-functional collaboration, and championing a user-centred mindset. You bring design thinking, advocate for accessibility and inclusion, and help to ensure design solutions meet the needs of the communities we serve, including (but not limited to) clients, providers, and the wider sex worker community.

What you’ll do as a Senior Product Designer within our team:

User Experience (UX) Research And Application

  • Create design plans, that communicate key activities, sequencing, deliverables, check in points, and playbacks.
  • Conduct UX research, including interviews, usability tests, and surveys—particularly focused on our platform users.
  • Translate research findings into actionable outcomes that guide design decisions and product strategy.
  • Create and test prototypes to validate design concepts, determine minimum viable product (MVP) requirements, and iterate based on user feedback.
  • Work with Product Management and Engineering to ensure that any rapid iteration is included in the delivery plan.

User interface design and delivery

  • Design thoughtful, accessible, and inclusive interfaces that reflect user needs and product goals.
  • Create prototypes, flows, and visual designs that are implementation-ready and grounded in UX research.
  • Ensure consistency, usability, and accessibility across products and platforms, and support scalable collaboration with front-end engineers.

Strategic design practice

  • Apply evidence-based design practices across the Platform Group, ensuring inclusive, user-led approaches to solving complex problems.
  • Bring stakeholders on the journey, helping engineers, product managers, and cross-functional partners adopt user-centred practices in prioritisation, delivery, and iteration.
  • Monitor and support the flow of design work, proactively identifying blockers, gaps in understanding, or missed opportunities for user engagement.

Cross-functional collaboration

  • Enabling the team to collaborate closely with product managers and front-end engineers to ensure high-quality handoff, feasibility, and alignment between design and development.
  • Work closely with Product Managers, Engineers, and other stakeholders to align on problem spaces, scope, and priorities.
  • Engage with internal (e.g., CX, Trust and Safety, Marketing) and external (e.g., users, partner orgs) stakeholders to ensure real-world user context and community values are considered in design decisions.

Your background and skills:

  • Experience as a Product Designer delivering digital products, platforms or SaaS solutions.
  • You hold deep technical expertise of UX and UI design tools and best practice with a track record of clear, useful, visually compelling work
  • Strong hands on experience with Figma, FigJam, and user research platforms for rapid prototyping and testing
  • Experience working within existing design systems
  • Comfortable with project management tools such as Notion and Linear
  • Confident communicator who can adapt technical explanations for different audiences and turn complex problems into clear briefs
  • Comfortable working async with a distributed team
  • You have a high level of ambiguity tolerance and can adapt to changing needs
  • Experience or genuine interest in designing for marginalised or stigmatised communities, with a strong sense of empathy, privacy, and safety-first thinking

In an ideal world, you would also have:

  • Previous experience engaging with and a willingness to learn about marginalised communities, particularly sex workers, neurodivergent individuals, and people with disability.
  • Experience in or a strong understanding of sex work.
  • Experience working in both startup environments and fully remote work settings.
  • Experience in a bootstrapped or capital-efficient company (not only VC-funded environments).

Why join us at Assembly Four?

At Assembly Four, you’ll be part of a team dedicated to driving meaningful change for some of the world’s most marginalised communities. You’ll be supported to do your best work in an environment that values social impact, collaboration, and personal well-being.

Here’s what’s on offer:

  • Flexible work: Enjoy a 4-day (32-hour) work week at 100% pay, plus time in lieu for additional hours worked.
  • Competitive compensation: A salary that starts from $158,000 + super, based on your skills and experience.
  • Fully remote: Work from anywhere with a remote work stipend to help set up your ideal workspace.
  • Wellness benefits: Access a wellbeing stipend, mental health support, to support your personal and professional growth.
  • Generous leave: Take 4 weeks of annual leave, 4 weeks of personal/carer's leave, flexible public holidays, and unpaid leave when you need it.
  • Profit share: We share our success with our team—each year, if Assembly Four is profitable, we distribute a portion of that profit to our people.
  • Parental leave: Access generous paid parental leave options designed to support you, your family, and your return to work.

A note on diversity…

At Assembly Four, we know diverse perspectives are key to fostering true innovation and business excellence. Research shows that candidates from underrepresented backgrounds may hesitate to apply if they don't meet every listed requirement, unlike other candidates.

We're committed to changing that.

If you're interested in Assembly Four, we encourage you to apply and look forward to discovering how your unique perspective can help us edge closer to delivering on our vision for change.
