Your personal sphere of play: The “ Nanomagnetism and Magnonics ” Research Unit under the direction of Prof. Dr. Andrii Chumak at the Faculty of Physics, University of Vienna, is an ambitious team conducting internationally leading research in the fields of magnonics. The research scope of the group includes spin-wave physics, RF applications, inverse-design magnonics, spintronics, low-temperature quantum magnonics, unconventional computing, and nonlinear spin-wave phenomena in nanoscale hybrid systems. We are looking for a Senior Scientist with outstanding expertise in experimental magnonics to support the group in its cutting-edge research on spin waves. The position is initially limited to three years. A transfer to a permanent contract is possible a) by mutual agreement and b) if the Senior Scientist successfully acquires, as Principal Investigator, a competitive third-party-funded research project (FWF, FFG, EU, or comparable). Your future tasks: Active participation in research, teaching & administration, which means: Contribute to the goals of the Research Unit "Nanomagnetism and Magnonics" as a Senior Scientist. Focus on time-resolved micro-focused Brillouin light scattering (BLS) spectroscopy, Ferromagnetic Resonance (FMR) spectroscopy and Propagating Spin Wave Spectroscopy (PSWS). Maintain complex experimental instrumentation. Perform cutting-edge experiments in the field of spin-wave transport in magnonic nanostructures and networks. Develop spin-wave-based RF prototypes for data processing in 5G and 6G frequency ranges. Hold courses independently within the scope of the provisions of the collective bargaining agreement. This is part of your personality: Hold a doctoral degree in experimental physics. You have more than 5 years' experience in experimental studies of magnon transport using various techniques, including optical and microwave spectroscopies. Experience of using Brillouin light scattering and propagating spin wave spectroscopy is an advantage. Possess experience in the applied field of spin-wave RF data processing. General knowledge and experience in magnonics and spintronics. Experience in (co-) supervising students is an advantage. Excellent knowledge of English.
