Senior SDET - (Remote, Spain) We usually respond within a week About Bark Bark is an online services marketplace connecting customers with professionals across over 1,000 categories. Operating in nine countries including the UK, US, Australia, Canada, and New Zealand, we're transforming how people find trusted service providers for everything from home improvement to professional services. Our platform uses cutting-edge technology to match customers with the right professionals quickly and efficiently. With a global team of over 220 people, we're currently undergoing an exciting transformation: migrating from a lead generation model to a full marketplace platform with subscription-based pricing. As a profitable, PE backed scale up (EMK Capital), Bark offers the best of both worlds: the agility and innovation of a fast moving business combined with financial stability and resources for growth. We recently launched our new marketplace model in Australia (Q4 2025) and are preparing for rollout to the UK and US markets in 2026. You'll have genuine ownership, responsibility, and the opportunity to shape our commercial strategy during a pivotal transformation phase with the chance to make your own contribution to our journey. About the Role *Please note you must be based in Spain to be considered for this fully remote role. We're looking for a Senior SDET to join our Interactions squad, the team responsible for the consumer-facing heart of Bark: the buyer and seller experiences that connect millions of people with professionals. Interactions owns the frontend surfaces and the services behind them: project creation, professional contact and communication flows, lead claiming, reviews, and the journeys that turn a first visit into a lasting customer relationship. This is a user-journey-first role with real technical depth behind it. The most important quality work in Interactions happens where the frontend meets the backend: end-to-end flows across web and app, event-driven interactions between services, deep linking and app install journeys, and the data integrity that underpins what users actually see. You'll be someone who thinks in terms of complete user journeys, reads the code behind the UI to understand what's actually happening, and writes automation that reflects real user behaviour rather than happy-path clicks. Beyond the squad work, this role carries cross-squad responsibility. You'll help drive quality engineering innovation across the company: contributing to how we adopt AI tooling, strengthening our synthetic monitoring of critical user journeys, and helping the wider QE chapter grow technically. We want someone who sees the whole picture and actively shapes it. You'll be embedded in the Interactions squad, working closely with frontend and backend engineers from design through to production, while also contributing to the QE chapter and QE Guild in a way that meaningfully moves both forward. Responsibilities Design and maintain end-to-end and integration automation across our consumer-facing web and app experiences using TypeScript with Playwright, covering the full buyer and seller journeys, not just isolated pages. Test the seams between frontend and backend: API contracts, event-driven flows (e.g. actions on the frontend triggering downstream and notification behaviour), eventual consistency, and failure scenarios that degrade the user experience. Own quality for high-impact product journeys including project creation, professional contact, lead claiming, reviews, and app install and deep-link flows across first-install and returning-user states. Partner with engineers early to close testability gaps in component design, data flows, and service boundaries — quality starts at design, not at QA handoff. Build and maintain synthetic monitoring in Datadog for always-on coverage of critical production user journeys, and use SQL to validate system state behind what the frontend renders. Validate analytics, tracking, and experiment instrumentation so product decisions are made on trustworthy data. Integrate tests into CI/CD and strengthen observability and alerting so quality signals are clear, fast, and actionable. Design and maintain performance tests that catch regressions before they get to production, and translate results into actionable capacity and scaling recommendations for engineering teams. Drive adoption of AI tooling within the squad and QE chapter, applying LLMs and agentic approaches to test planning, execution, and failure triage. Contribute actively to the QE Guild: run tech-sharing sessions, mentor across squads, and help raise the standard for the chapter. Required Skills and Experience 5+ years in SDET / Quality Engineering with strong experience testing consumer-facing web products end to end. Expert-level test automation in TypeScript with Playwright and/or Cypress: you build maintainable frameworks, not just scripts, and know how to keep large suites fast and flake-free. Strong API testing at the integration and contract level — you're comfortable going below the UI to test what actually matters. Experience testing event-driven and asynchronous flows, and writing assertions that don't depend on timing luck. Ability to read and reason about frontend and backend code to decide what to test and why. Strong SQL for data validation, test data setup, and investigation. Practical experience applying AI to QE work. You understand how LLMs behave and can put agentic tooling to real use in a testing context. Hands-on experience with synthetic monitoring (ideally Datadog) for production user journeys. Strong communicator who works well embedded in a cross-functional squad and can influence quality practice beyond it. Bonus skills and experience Experience testing mobile apps and deep-link / app install journeys (deferred deep links, first-install states, attribution). Hands-on experience building with MCP servers and agentic test workflows — tools that read Jira, generate test plans, execute autonomously, and write results back. Experience validating A/B experiments and analytics instrumentation. Accessibility and cross-browser / cross-device testing experience. Background in two-sided marketplaces or high-traffic consumer products. Familiarity with contract testing or service virtualisation. Broader language exposure (PHP or Python). Interview Process Screening Call with Talent Partner (30 mins) 1st Stage - Take home task 2nd Stage - Paired programming task (90 mins) 3rd Stage - Values interview (30/45 mins) Diversity Statement At Bark, we are a platform for people, revolutionising the way professionals and individuals connect since 2014.
