Senior Software Engineer

At IT Labs, we are looking for an experienced Senior .NET Engineer to join one of our most exciting client engagements in the professional services space. Our client is one of the world's largest and most recognized professional services organizations, operating across more than 150 countries and serving a large share of the world's leading companies. They deliver consulting, technology, audit, tax, and advisory services, and are heavily investing in digital transformation, cloud modernization, and enterprise software delivery for clients across industries such as Financial Services, Public Sector, Healthcare, and Technology. In this role, you will join a distributed engineering team building enterprise-grade, high-availability systems that process very large volumes of financial data — including platforms that must remain fully operational during extreme usage peaks, such as tax filing deadlines. This is a deeply technical, backend-focused role. While there is frontend work in Angular, the core of the role is designing and building robust .NET services, APIs, and cloud architecture that scale. This team works in an AI-forward way. Engineers are expected to actively use AI tools in their daily development process — for coding, testing, analysis, and problem-solving — and to bring energy and curiosity to how AI can improve delivery. If you are skeptical or cautious about AI-assisted development, this is not the right engagement for you. The role is best suited for someone who thrives on complex architectural problems, can confidently walk through the systems they've personally built and the technical decisions behind them, and enjoys contributing ideas when presented with open-ended business challenges. What You'll Do Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend systems using C#, .NET (.NET Core / .NET 6+), and ASP.NET Web API Architect solutions for high-throughput, high-availability scenarios — systems handling large financial data volumes with sharp usage peaks and zero tolerance for downtime Lead and contribute to system design discussions: API design, data modeling, caching, queuing, scaling strategies, and resilience patterns Design and optimize relational database schemas and query performance in MS SQL Server Build and operate cloud-native solutions on Azure (App Services, Azure Functions, Azure AD, Application Insights), including auto-scaling and cost-aware architecture Actively use AI tools throughout your development workflow and share practices with the team Take ownership of features end-to-end — from clarifying ambiguous requirements and defining acceptance criteria through implementation, testing, and delivery Contribute to frontend features in Angular and TypeScript where needed Implement secure authentication and access control across APIs and applications Perform unit, integration, API, and performance testing to ensure delivery quality Participate in code reviews, technical analysis, and proof-of-concept work Required Skills 8+ years of professional software development experience, with the majority in backend .NET development Deep, recent, hands-on experience with C#, .NET (.NET Core / .NET 6+), and ASP.NET Web API — well beyond CRUD: think domain modeling, performance optimization, distributed systems, complex integrations Ability to confidently and specifically articulate your personal technical contributions, architectural decisions, and their business impact Genuine enthusiasm for AI-assisted development and demonstrable daily use of AI tools in your workflow Strong architectural thinking: experience designing (or meaningfully contributing to the design of) systems for high availability, elasticity, and peak-load scenarios Solid experience with Entity Framework / EF Core and REST API design Strong relational database skills with MS SQL Server Experience with Azure cloud services (App Service, Functions, Azure AD, Application Insights) Experience with microservices, external integrations, and event-driven or message-based patterns Solid testing practices: unit, integration, API, and performance testing Comfort navigating ambiguity — clarifying vague requirements, exploring unfamiliar codebases, and planning delivery in a new domain Fluent English and strong communication skills Experience working in Agile teams Nice to Have Working knowledge of Angular, JavaScript, and TypeScript Experience in FinTech, tax, or other financial-data-heavy domains Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, Helm, and containerized deployments Experience in enterprise or regulated environments Working Conditions Full-time, 40h/week 1-year individual contract or B2B arrangement (with possibility for extension) Salary paid monthly in gross USD Hybrid work (2 times per week in the Skopje office) PTO provided Our values We are a company that seeks the best for both our employees and clients, reaching beyond expectations in turning dreams into reality.
