We are looking for an experienced Senior Software Engineer to join our team. You will work on PlanHub's email delivery platform — a critical piece of infrastructure that keeps our marketplace running. When general contractors post projects, subcontractors submit bids, and suppliers respond to opportunities, email is what connects them. Reliable, timely delivery isn't just a technical requirement; it directly drives the revenue and relationships that sit at the heart of PlanHub's business.

You will integrate AI-driven insights and predictive analytics into our processes to ensure that the right contractors and suppliers are notified about the right opportunities.

You will work extensively with AWS services, event-driven architecture, and infrastructure-as-code. You'll be expected to drive technical decisions independently, contribute to architecture discussions, and raise the quality bar across the team.

What you will be doing:

• Design, develop, own and operate the email delivery system services, queues, and related cloud infrastructure.
• Ensure robust, scalable, asynchronous data processing, including handling throttling, retry policies, and idempotency.
• Integrate data from machine learning services and AI signals into the targeting and matching algorithms for email campaigns.
• Define and enforce integration contracts between application, data, and ML/AI teams.
• Deploy, monitor, and maintain services using observability tools (Datadog logging, alerts, and distributed tracing).
• Troubleshoot production issues, optimize pipeline performance, and ensure high reliability for mission-critical data flows.

What you will need to be successful:

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Proficiency in modern PHP development.
• Experience building backend services or integration pipelines in cloud environments.
• Strong understanding of event-driven and message-driven architectures.
• Experience using relational databases, specifically MySQL, to build robust, performant applications, including query optimization, locking and transaction isolation modes, and data modeling.
• Experience using AI coding tools (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor or similar tools) to improve software delivery, coupled with strong engineering judgment and quality controls.
• Strong problem-solving skills with attention to code quality, testing, and maintainability.
• Hands-on experience with AWS services such as SQS, EventBridge, Lambda, SNS, and DynamoDB.
• Familiarity with operating containerized workloads in production.
• Solid understanding of asynchronous processing, retry logic, idempotency, and distributed system reliability.
• Experience with monitoring and observability in cloud environments.

Nice to have:

• Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code using Terraform.
• Experience working with email service providers such as SendGrid.
• Experience in Laravel development
