Senior Software Engineer

Job Summary: BLR is seeking a remote Senior Software Engineer (PHP) to help maintain, improve and extend our established environmental, health, and safety (EHS) compliance platform. You will work directly with product and engineering teammates to keep the platform reliable and continuously improving. This is a hands-on role for an engineer who is comfortable working in an existing codebase, takes pride in clean and maintainable code, and enjoys steadily raising the quality bar. Primary Duties and Responsibilities: Maintain and enhance the BasicSafe application Design, build, and ship new features across the stack Write clean, well-structured, maintainable code Contribute to gradually modernizing the codebase Develop and consume REST APIs and integrations between application components and services Write and optimize MySQL queries and schema changes, using safe, parameterized data Collaborate with product managers, QA, and fellow engineers to translate requirements into technical solutions Participate in code reviews, uphold coding standards, and help improve team practices and documentation Additional Responsibilities Additional duties as assigned Critical Competencies: Ownership & Execution - Demonstrates a sense of ownership to drive issues to closure, maximizes the use of existing processes while continuously pursuing ways to improve efficiencies, sets aggressive goals, monitors progress, and delivers results, seizes more opportunities than others Manages Ambiguity & Change - Makes decisions with available information that align with strategy, embraces and manages change, challenges that status quo and champions new initiatives, comfortable handles risk and uncertainty Innovative Thinking – Consistently demonstrates a passion for innovative thinking and idea generation, successfully obtains by-in from relevant stakeholders, able to navigate the creative process, can project how potential ideas may play out in the marketplace The Individual: Experience maintaining and enhancing large PHP web applications, including legacy systems Strong MySQL skills, including query optimization and database design Solid object-oriented PHP knowledge with experience in legacy codebases Proficiency in Javascript, jQuery, and modern frameworks (Vue.js preferred; Quasar a plus) Proficient with Git and collaborative development workflows Strong debugging, problem-solving, and remote collaboration skills Excellent written and verbal communication skills Qualifications: 5+ years of professional software development experience, with strong, hands-on PHP expertise All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability or protected veteran status.
