Senior Software Engineer

Our technology powers critical services used by millions of South Africans every day. We are seeking an experienced Senior Software Engineer to join our Development team. This is a senior technical role responsible for designing, developing and modernising enterprise software solutions while providing technical leadership and mentoring within the engineering team. This is a hybrid role, with three days per week based at our Magaliessig office and two days working remotely, offering the opportunity to collaborate closely with the team while maintaining flexibility. The successful candidate will play a key role in modernising legacy banking platforms, driving engineering best practices, and contributing to the delivery of secure, scalable and high-performing software solutions. Key Responsibilities: Design, develop and maintain secure, scalable and high-performing enterprise software solutions. Lead the modernisation of legacy Java platforms to containerised, cloud-native architectures. Drive DevOps and DevSecOps best practices, including CI/CD, automated testing and secure software development. Collaborate with Product, QA, Infrastructure, Security and Architecture teams to deliver high-quality solutions. Mentor and support software engineers through technical guidance, code reviews and knowledge sharing. Contribute to software architecture, technical design and engineering standards. Build and enhance AI-powered capabilities where appropriate and leverage AI-assisted development tools to improve engineering efficiency. Ensure solutions comply with security, quality and regulatory standards, including POPIA and OWASP best practices. Continuously evaluate new technologies, frameworks and engineering practices to improve product quality and team productivity. Requirements: 10+ years' experience in software development. Strong experience with Java SE/EE, Spring Boot, JPA/Hibernate and RESTful services. Proven experience designing and developing enterprise-scale applications. Strong understanding of software architecture and design principles. Experience with Git, CI/CD pipelines, Docker and Kubernetes. Strong SQL database experience. Experience working within Agile development environments. Excellent problem-solving, communication and mentoring skills. Advantageous Experience: Financial services, banking or payment platform experience. Microservices and event-driven architectures. Cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS or GCP. React, Angular or PrimeFaces. AI-assisted development tools (GitHub Copilot, Claude Code) and AI/ML integrations. Azure DevOps, NoSQL databases and MLOps. Why Join Interfile?
