ABOUT THE ROLE

Over the next few years, World of Books plans to accelerate growth as a direct-to-consumer

(D2C) eCommerce business. It’s our most customer-facing engineering domain covering

worldofbooks.com, our iOS and Android apps, and the platforms behind catalogue, inventory,

pricing and orders.

As a Senior Software Engineer, you'll be one of the most senior individual contributors in your

squad, trusted to design systems rather than just implement tickets, and to help shape how

the team works, including how it adopts AI-native, agent-first development.

You'll own architecture for your team's area, run unattended AI coding agents for real feature

delivery (not just autocomplete), lead reliability reviews and incident response, and mentor

engineers earlier in their careers. You'll work closely with your Senior Engineering Manager,

Staff Engineers, the VP of Engineering, and the Director of Architecture, translating business

goals into sound technical calls.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, with a track record of
• owning significant work end-to-end
• Deep proficiency in Java/Spring Boot, Next.js/React, or Kotlin/Swift
• Demonstrated system-level and architectural thinking, not just feature-level
• Confident, daily use of AI coding tools such as Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, or Cursor
• Strong testing discipline and working knowledge of database design
• Effective communication in English and Hungarian across cross-functional and cross-
• border teams
• Experience with eCommerce platforms, event-driven architectures, native mobile delivery, or
• mentoring and interviewing is a plus, as is a track record of helping a team (not just yourself)
• adopt AI-assisted development.
