Senior Solution Architect

Entity: Technology Job Family Group: IT&S Group Job Description: About the role We are looking for a Senior Solution Architect to help design and deliver secure, scalable, and cost-effective technology solutions across our Fleet business. You’ll focus on detailed solution design and technical architecture within specific domains such as consumer-facing applications, payment systems, card issuing EV, ORS and Fuels transactions processing services. This role is ideal for an experienced Architect who brings strong hands-on expertise, thrives in delivery-focused environments and is ready to take ownership of solutions for focused projects or components within larger products/programmes. You will work closely with technical leads, and delivery teams to turn business needs into robust digital solutions. Role Purpose The Senior Solution Architect is responsible for translating business requirements, architectural direction and capability roadmaps into implementable solution designs. Working under the guidance of the Lead Solution Architect, the role supports the delivery of strategic initiatives by producing solution architectures, technical designs and architecture artefacts that align with established standards, target architecture and domain principles. The role acts as the primary architecture partner for delivery teams, supporting feature development, major initiatives, integrations, technology modernisation activities and cross-system design challenges across a global product landscape. The role is key in enablement and acceleration of the delivery through high-quality architecture execution and design leadership. Key Responsibilities Solution Design & Delivery Support Lead solution design activities for initiatives, projects and product features. Produce end-to-end solution designs spanning multiple systems and services. Define application interactions, integrations, data flows and service boundaries. Ensure solutions align with target architecture and domain standards. Support engineering teams throughout design and implementation phases. Gain Architecture Governance approval for Solution designs on a TDA Architecture Artefacts, Design and Documentation Develop and maintain solution Architecture Documents including: High Level Designs, KDDs (Key Design Decisions), Data Flow Models and Architecture Diagrams, Integration Designs, e2e solution architecture; contribute into strategic roadmaps with Low Level Architecture Inputs, Transition Architecture Inputs. The role is expected to prepare design artefacts and recommendations that are reviewed and approved through architecture governance processes. This role will engage Architecture design authorities for consulting, review and approval of the architecture designs. Collaboration & Delivery Enablement Role will work closely with Product Managers, Business Analysts, SMEs, Technical Leads, Engineering Teams, Platform Teams, UX Designers and Domain architects to: Refine requirements Identify architecture impacts Assess technical feasibility Develop solution options Prototype Resolve design issues before delivery begins Technology & Standards Apply MACH principles (Microservices, API-first, Cloud-native, Headless) and cloud-native design approaches, ideally with AWS services. Ensure foundational elements like security, observability, and integration are built into every solution. Work within defined architecture standards, helping to evolve patterns and reusable frameworks Governance & Quality Assurance Present designs at architecture review forums. Ensure adherence to architecture standards and patterns. Support architecture compliance assessments. Identify design risks, gaps and technical debt. Escalate architectural concerns to Lead Architects where required. Support implementation reviews and design validation activities. Strong Candidate Profile should include The successful candidate will demonstrate: Strong hands-on solution architecture experience. Ability to work across multiple products and systems. Excellent integration architecture skills. Strong documentation and communication abilities. Experience producing architecture artefacts and design decisions. Ability to support several concurrent initiatives. Comfortable working with distributed global teams. Strong stakeholder engagement skills. Fleet domain knowledge Success Measures Success in this role would be measured by: High-quality architecture deliverables produced on time. Reduced ambiguity for engineering teams. Successful delivery of cross-system initiatives. Timely enablement of the delivery with design decisions Skills & Capabilities Required Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent experience. At least 8-10 years in hands-on solution architecture or technical leadership roles. Strong Architecture knowledge of MACH architecture principles, Event-driven architectures, Relational databases, Distributed systems, Security fundamentals, DevOps concepts, CI/CD practices. Deeper knowledge and experience in the following areas will be a plus: AWS, Kafka/Event Streaming, Salesforce, Domain Driven Design (DDD), Identity & Access Management, Payments platforms, Fleet or mobility solutions Proficient in Integration design patterns, API architecture (REST, event-driven), and microservices. Good understanding of Architecture domains (application, data, infrastructure, integration and security). Experience designing and delivering solutions using cloud-native architectures, ideally on AWS. Candidate with a proven AI practitioner experience will have a preference Behavioural Capabilities Strong Problem Solving – person in this role should be able independently investigate complex business and technical problems and develop pragmatic solution options.
