Senior Tax Managers are responsible for the success, retention, and satisfaction of their team and clients by empowering and upskilling staff, overseeing tax compliance services, and developing strong, lasting client relationships. As a Senior Tax Manager, you will build and maintain client relationships through retention strategies, cross-selling firmwide services to meet client opportunities and needs, and developing business opportunities via networking and thought leadership, such as whitepapers, presentations, and industry engagement. Senior Tax Managers are responsible for overseeing tax compliance services, which may include reviewing and delivering multi-state Individual, Partnership, and S-Corporation tax returns (among other types of returns) as well as the corresponding workpapers that support those tax returns. Beyond compliance, Senior Managers drive innovation and efficiency by identifying, developing, testing and scaling solutions across teams with an emphasis on leveraging technology. In addition, you will develop and drive process improvements and lead team building initiatives. Senior Managers also contribute to firmwide initiatives by representing the firm in industry networks, publishing thought leadership, and participating in firmwide projects to enhance visibility and growth. As a team leader, you will provide strategic guidance and coaching across all staff levels to ensure goals, objectives, and processes are clearly communicated, understood, and consistently executed. You will also focus on developing future leaders, fostering accountability, and creating high-performing teams that deliver best-in-class service to both clients and colleagues while contributing directly to firm growth. We are a 100% virtual CPA firm, with our team located across the United States. As a real estate niche-focused firm, we serve Real Estate Investors, Syndicates, and Fund Managers. Our team has a passion for real estate and often owns investment properties themselves. Areas of Responsibility • Conduct final reviews of tax returns, sign tax returns and deliver to clients, and provide a brief recap video or phone call to walk the client through the return, highlighting key areas of significance • Provide best in class service to clients, serving as the primary client relationship manager, and maintaining strong client relationships by managing their expectations, being responsive to their communications/emails, and providing high quality deliverables • Set clear performance targets, monitor progress, and conduct regular check-ins, driving a culture of accountability and holding team members accountable to deadlines, revenue, and quality metrics • Conduct regular coaching and training sessions, as well as monthly goal check-ins, to remove blockers, foster accountability, encourage professional growth, and drive best in class client service • Build high performing teams and manage capacity through developing and facilitating scalable, flexible, and efficient processes that maximize capacity and minimize labor costs relative to revenue • Ensure the firm’s goals, objectives, and processes are clearly communicated, understood and executed consistently by each team member. • Adhere to professional ethics of the firm and AICPA, including policies regarding client confidentiality • Seen as a subject matter expert in multi-state and real estate taxation; lead technical research and advise on complex transactions • Oversee resolution of client notices and audits, facilitating communication with the client, state or federal agency, and any staff involved • Lead or contribute to firm initiatives including proposals, training development (CPE), and efficiency/innovation committees • Collaborate with Partners, Directors, and peers related to engagement concerns and issues, and resolve client engagement issues with a focus on best-in-class service; continuously monitor client happiness • Stay updated on tax law changes and mentor team members to elevate technical skills, service quality, and collaboration • Consult with peers, supervisors, and clients - being responsive to their communications (same-day response time, or adhering to external 48-hour times as applicable ) • Recommend other firm services to the benefit of the client. Ex: bookkeeping services, tax advisory etc. • Maintain complete and accurate project management system updates, client notes, and process compliance • Actively participate in marketing and business development efforts of the team; developing, building, expanding, and managing client relationships Measures for Success • Client Retention & Cross-Selling: Retention rates, expansion of business through cross-selling other firm services, and new revenue generated through business development • Timeliness of Deliverables: Team meets internal deliverable deadlines consistently • Quality & Revenue: Team meets internal quality and revenue standards consistently • Employee Experience: Engagement and upward feedback surveys reflecting accountability, satisfaction, leadership, support and upskilling of staff, development of future leaders • Business Development • Achievement of service line financial targets Expectations for remote work • Clean background with no noise or distractions • Business casual attire for client interactions • Always use video (80% of communication is non-verbal) • We provide a laptop and an annual $500 tech reimbursement for computer/tech accessories You’re a Good Fit For Our Culture If: • You’re friendly, have a sense of humor, enjoy helping and teaching others, and speak kindly of others • You’re disciplined and thrive in a fast-paced environment that is in relentless pursuit of changing the accounting industry • You have exceptional time management and supervisory skills • You possess excellent communication and listening skills, breaking down barriers to solve problems and improve operational performance • You take ownership of your work, clients, and team members and drive projects to the finish line • You love working with and speaking to clients, delivering results, and improving their lives Required Education and Experience: • Bachelor's degree in accounting from an accredited college or university (Master's preferred) • Minimum of 7 years of relevant professional experience, with 2 years experience as a manager recommended • CPA or EA certification required
