Senior Technical Consultant – Power & New Energy Play an integral role in advancing the energy transition by helping utilities, developers, and industrial customers deliver reliable, resilient, and sustainable power infrastructure. As part of Worley Consulting’s Power & New Energy team, you will contribute to some of North America’s most important energy projects, supporting transmission, distribution, substation, renewable energy, and grid modernization initiatives. This role offers the opportunity to combine technical expertise with client engagement and project leadership while helping shape the future of the power industry. Purpose of the role Worley Consulting’s Power & New Energy group is seeking a technically strong and commercially minded Senior Technical Consultant to support the delivery of complex power and energy infrastructure projects across North America. This role provides analytical, engineering, and advisory expertise across transmission, distribution, and substation systems while supporting the integration of renewable energy and emerging technologies. You will play a key role in developing innovative solutions for utilities, independent power producers, developers, and industrial customers. Working alongside multidisciplinary teams, you will contribute to project feasibility assessments, interconnection strategies, engineering studies, infrastructure planning, and client advisory services. This position offers a clear path toward increased project leadership, customer engagement, and strategic consulting responsibilities. Location(s): Houston, Texas; Long Beach, California; or Monrovia, California This position follows a hybrid work schedule, requiring regular in-office collaboration three days per week. Remote work is not available. Travel of up to 30% is required to support project delivery, customer engagement, workshops, and business development activities. You will be responsible for: Leading and executing technical analyses that support transmission, distribution, and substation infrastructure development. Performing economic evaluations, feasibility studies, and investment analyses that inform customer decision-making and project development strategies. Conducting power system modeling and engineering assessments using industry-standard software and analytical tools. Supporting transmission interconnection studies, grid integration assessments, and energy transition initiatives. Developing transmission and distribution layouts, including engineering drawings, technical documentation, and design packages. Reviewing and validating preliminary and detailed engineering designs to ensure technical accuracy, regulatory compliance, and constructability. Analyzing large-scale electric power systems for utilities, Independent System Operators (ISOs), Regional Transmission Organizations (RTOs), developers, and industrial customers. Preparing high-quality technical reports, presentations, recommendations, and customer-facing deliverables. Presenting technical findings and strategic recommendations to customers, executive stakeholders, regulators, and public forums when required. Collaborating with engineering, consulting, project management, environmental, permitting, and construction teams to deliver integrated solutions. Supporting proposal development, project scoping, cost estimating, and business case evaluations. Building and maintaining strong customer relationships through technical excellence, responsiveness, and trusted advisory support. Contributing to business development initiatives and helping identify opportunities for growth within the power and new energy markets. Representing Worley at industry conferences, technical forums, and knowledge-sharing events. Promoting a culture of safety, operational excellence, sustainability, and continuous improvement. What you’ll bring to the role: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering, or a related discipline. A Master’s degree is preferred. Approximately 7+ years of experience supporting utility, power generation, transmission, distribution, renewable energy, or other energy infrastructure projects. Strong technical knowledge of power systems, including transmission, distribution, and substation engineering. Experience supporting renewable energy projects, including solar, wind, battery energy storage systems, and emerging grid technologies. Understanding of utility interconnection processes, grid codes, regulatory requirements, and industry compliance frameworks. Proficiency with industry-standard software including ETAP, SKM, PSLF, PSS®E, PSCAD, SEL programming applications, PLS-CADD, PLS-Tower, or similar tools. Experience performing power system studies, engineering analyses, feasibility assessments, and infrastructure planning evaluations. Ability to interpret engineering standards, design criteria, and technical specifications. Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities with the ability to develop innovative and practical solutions. Demonstrated experience preparing customer-ready technical reports, presentations, and advisory deliverables. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences. Ability to work independently while also contributing effectively within multidisciplinary project teams. Strong organizational, project management, and time-management skills. Professional Engineer (PE) registration preferred, or the ability to obtain licensure in the United States. Experience transitioning from a technical engineering role into customer-facing consulting and project leadership responsibilities is highly valued. Compensation Range for California applicants For positions located in California, the anticipated salary range is $136,876 - $201,288 , commensurate with experience, qualifications, and applicable market factors. Los Angeles applicants will be considered for employment in accordance with all applicable federal, state, and local laws.
