Safe and enjoyable events rely on capable people who are prepared to pitch in, stay alert and help make sure the right equipment and water-safety coverage are in place. We’re looking for Seasonal Event Safety Support team members to provide practical event set-up, equipment and water-safety support at Northern Region Junior Surf and Senior Sport events. Working under the direction of the Seasonal Event Safety Lead or delegated event-safety lead, you’ll help events run safely, smoothly and professionally throughout the season. What You’ll Be Doing You’ll be part of the Event Guard team at assigned events, contributing both on the beach and in the water and helping turn event plans into safe, well-organised delivery. This includes: Helping safely set up, position, check, recover and pack down Event Guard equipment and safety assets Providing water-safety support from assigned land- or water-based positions during competitions and events Attending operational briefings, understanding your assigned duties and following the event safety plan and instructions Maintaining active surveillance, situational awareness and readiness to respond to incidents or changing conditions Reporting risks, incidents, near misses, participant concerns and equipment issues promptly through the agreed channels Supporting incident response within the limits of your current qualifications, competence and assigned responsibilities Working respectfully with event guards, volunteers, officials, staff, clubs and participants Helping clean, inspect, account for and prepare equipment between events, and contributing useful feedback through debriefs At its core, this role is about being prepared, dependable and safety-focused—contributing wherever needed so participants can enjoy Surf Life Saving sport in a well-supported environment. What You’ll Bring You’re a reliable and practical team member who communicates clearly, follows instructions and remains calm and alert in a fast-moving coastal environment. You’re comfortable asking questions, raising concerns early and helping others when needed. A current, refreshed Surf Lifeguard Award and current membership of an SLSNZ club Operational surf lifesaving knowledge and the ability to work safely in dynamic coastal and event environments Experience supporting Event Guard operations, event water safety or SLSNZ Sport An understanding of SLSNZ competition rules and event operations relevant to assigned duties Clear communication, sound judgement and practical problem-solving skills, particularly under pressure Reliability, punctuality and the ability to follow instructions, work independently and contribute as part of a team The physical capability to undertake water-safety, equipment-handling and event set-up duties safely Availability to work the event schedule, including early starts, weekends, public holidays, travel and variable weather conditions Previous experience working with volunteers, officials and club members, knowledge of Northern Region events and venues, or additional relevant lifesaving, first aid, communications, craft or vehicle qualifications would be an advantage.
