Part of the Professional Services consulting team, this role serves as the technical subject matter expert for platform APIs, custom application integrations, data migrations, and backend development—specifically utilizing Ruby on Rails alongside modern web technologies to extend platform capabilities across diverse industries and business functions. Key Responsibilities Custom Architecture & Software Engineering • Develop, build, test, and deploy custom software integrations and web applications using Ruby on Rails, REST APIs, and backend frameworks. • Architect scalable, high-performance data integration pipelines connecting enterprise SaaS platforms with third-party business systems (CRM, ERP, ETL, and analytics tools). • Manage the technical delivery of custom code development, system integrations, and data migration workstreams. Client Consulting & Technical Design • Lead technical design workshops with client stakeholders to define technical requirements, architectural blueprints, and delivery milestones. • Identify architectural gaps between current-state systems and desired future-state architectures, documenting technical specifications and solution designs. • Determine solution feasibility and level of effort estimations in support of presales and professional services scoping. • Review, validate, and provide governance for technical architectures and custom code produced across the services team. Platform Extensibility & Best Practices • Serve as the technical Subject Matter Expert (SME) on product capabilities, REST API extensibility, and modern enterprise integration patterns. • Design and expand reusable solution templates, integration tools, and architectural best practices across diverse industry use cases. • Provide structured technical feedback to Product and Platform Engineering teams to drive roadmap enhancements. Required Qualifications • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Computer Information Systems, or equivalent relevant professional experience. • 3 or more years of hands-on experience in the configuration, customization, architecture, and implementation of enterprise SaaS applications. • Strong proficiency in backend development with Ruby on Rails for building web applications and API integrations. • Demonstrated development experience utilizing modern programming languages and frameworks (such as Ruby on Rails, Python, JavaScript, Node.js, Java, or .NET). • In-depth understanding of systems architecture, object-oriented design patterns, database schema design, and large data volume handling. • Hands-on experience integrating SaaS platforms with external business systems using RESTful APIs, webhooks, and ETL tools. • Familiarity with modern enterprise authentication protocols, including SAML, SSO, and OAuth. • Solid understanding of software development life cycles (SDLC), code versioning best practices, release management, and deployment methodologies. • Ability to travel periodically (up to 50%) based on customer and business project requirements. Preferred Qualifications • Hands-on expertise architecting custom solutions and integrations on the Smartsheet platform and utilizing the Smartsheet API. • Prior consulting experience in a professional services or client-facing technical delivery environment. • Experience with cloud hosting environments and asynchronous background processing.
