Software Developer - CAD and Computational Geometry

TICRA
Posted 4 hours ago
🇩🇰Denmark🏢Hybrid📁Engineering & Development
Is this job info correct?

At TICRA we develop advanced software for antenna design and electromagnetic simulation. Our customers use the software to design mission-critical components and optimize their performance. The electromagnetic solvers only perform as well as the geometry we feed them, and modern antennas are complex enough that building a good parametric 3D model has become a hard problem in its own right.

You will be part of TICRA’s Application Backend domain, working on CAD and computational geometry capabilities in close collaboration with our numerical algorithms and front-end developers. Within Application Backend, we develop the capabilities that transform the geometry and topology of a 3D CAD model into something a specific solver can use. We create the algorithms that decide which solvers can be applied, where in the model precision matters, and to transform any user-defined geometry reliably to the form each solver requires. Performance is critical, even for small models.

The numerical core is Fortran, the 3D modelling library is written in C++, based on OpenCascade. Our layer primarily works in the 3D modelling library, but also interfaces the numerical core.

Along with developing our software, you will also get opportunities to contribute to open-source software. We build on OpenCascade, the leading open-source CAD kernel, and debugging sometimes takes us down into their codebase - which is an opportunity to contribute upstream rather than work around it.

What the job actually is

You will design and implement:

  • Logic that transforms user-defined geometry to match the numerical algorithm.
  • Systems that ensure our algorithms keep working across multiple development cycles.
  • New code that is reliable and maintainable in an interactive application.
  • Refactors that make existing code more modular, easier to use and easier to maintain.
  • Tooling that improves our code and our development process.

Concretely, problems on our desk right now:

  • Creating algorithms for geometry hashing to robustly identify equivalent model parts and reduce duplicate work.
  • Auto-detecting certain user-defined geometries and transforming them to other topologies more suitable to the solver.
  • Automatically healing modelling errors wherever possible.
  • Solving edge-case issues we encounter with the OpenCascade kernel.
  • Profiling and improving the performance of our existing algorithms.

A core tenet of this role is matching what the algorithms expect with what makes sense to the user. It means collaborating outwards:

  • Collaborating with the numerical algorithms and meshing researchers, understanding what their libraries require.
  • Working with the front-end team on where automation can remove work from the user, rather than exposing another setting.
  • Listening to the internal expert users and antenna engineers, and recognising their pain points.

The CAD and computational geometry area is evolving. You will have real influence over its systems, tooling and workflows, and we would rather hire someone with opinions about how this should be built than hand them a process.

Who we are looking for

Essential:

  • Strong practical programming and debugging experience in a compiled language - C++, Rust, C or Fortran.
  • A solid background in computational geometry. That could come from meshing, CAD or geometry kernels, 3D rendering, 3D reconstruction, or theoretical work in geometry and topology.
  • Comfortable in a professional development workflow: build systems, version control, issue tracking and code review.

Nice to have:

  • OpenCascade or comparable experience with another geometry kernel.
  • Experience interfacing to large libraries with complex APIs.
  • Experience with developing and profiling performance-critical software.
  • Understanding of physics simulation and numerical methods - Method of Moments, FEM/BEM, or electromagnetics.

This could be you if you are:

  • A developer with professional experience, and a proven understanding of geometry.
  • A PhD with a strong geometry background, and an interest in developing production-quality software.
  • A graduate with an interesting software project portfolio.

You do not need to match one of these profiles exactly, or have all of the nice-to-have experience. If you cover the essentials, are curious about the rest, and can show that you are able to adapt, we look forward to hearing from you.

International candidates are welcome, but must be citizens of a NATO/EU country (required due

to project constraints).

Why join TICRA

For more than 50 years, TICRA has developed state-of-the-art antenna modelling software used by leading space agencies, satellite manufacturers and defense organizations worldwide.

You will join experienced colleagues who value technical depth, intellectual honesty and knowledge sharing.
