Software Development Engineer

O que você fará Avalara is accelerating delivery of AI-enabled capabilities across our compliance platform to improve customer experience, increase engineering velocity, and scale global operations. As a Senior Software Engineer, you will build reliable, scalable systems that support global transaction growth and help teams use artificial intelligence in practical, secure, and measurable ways. You will work with engineering, product, and business teams to deliver backend and frontend capabilities that improve automation, data processing, and customer insight. In this role you will be expected to raise engineering standards through ownership, technical judgment, mentoring, and responsible use of AI. You will report to the Senior Manager of Software Engineering, and you will work remotely, anywhere in Brazil. #LI-remote Quais serão as suas responsabilidades Exposure of a software development role, shipping complex applications to large scale production environments. Basic Understanding of Relational Databases (Postgres). Good object-oriented programming technique and debugging skills. Experience with data structures and algorithm. Experience working in an Agile team. Someone who loves to write optimized code. Experience approaching a problem from different angles, analyzing pros and cons of different solutions. Motivated, persistent and "Never Give Up" attitude. Experience with innovation and adaptability to a lean start-up culture. Creativity, enthusiasm, and flexibility. Bachelor's degree or higher in computer science or engineering is required. 6+ years of experience in Ruby on Rails or C#. Experience publishing and consuming Rest APIs. Knowledge of building CI/CD pipelines (GitLab, Terraform). Familiar with containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes, ECS). Experience to Cloud technologies (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud). Experience with Docker containers and Kubernetes (K8s), Docker Swarm as an orchestrator platform. Experience securing web applications Understanding of scalable systems and low latency APIs. Understanding of engineering for available and fault tolerant systems. It is a position with international interaction teams, only resumes sent in English will be considered. Raise standards for technical troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and resolution quality Improve team capability through mentorship, knowledge sharing, and clear documentation Reduce repeat issues by driving systemic fixes and improving diagnostic approaches Strengthen cross-functional execution by improving clarity and collaboration with Engineering and Product Identify opportunities to improve processes, tools, and workflows that increase scalability and efficiency Leave systems, documentation, and team capability stronger than they found them Use AI tools to accelerate development, root cause analysis, summarize case histories, and generate high-quality knowledge base content. Identify automation opportunities that reduce manual troubleshooting effort. Quantify and demonstrate measurable improvements enabled by AI (e.g., reduced resolution time, improved documentation quality).
