We operate a regulated digital asset exchange, broker, and custodian serving institutional and professional investors. Our QA practice has been rebuilt around agentic AI: test planning, test code, failure triage, and even code review happen in partnership with AI coding agents, with the engineer as the human in the loop.
A leading regulated digital asset exchange, broker, and custodian is seeking a Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) to join their pioneering QA practice, rebuilt around agentic AI. This role offers you the opportunity to work at the forefront of AI-driven quality assurance, where your judgment, curiosity, and clear communication are valued above a perfect CV. You will be empowered to direct AI agents for test planning, code generation, failure triage, and code review, ensuring that your expertise guides the process where machines cannot be trusted. Enjoy mentoring from senior SDETs, genuine ownership from day one, and a clear path into product development if desired. The organisation is committed to diversity and inclusion, providing an environment where every voice matters and flexible working opportunities are available. If you are passionate about AI-assisted engineering and want to develop a skill set few QA engineers possess, this is your chance to make a meaningful impact.
- Work alongside agentic AI tools daily, directing them for test planning, code generation, and failure triage while critically verifying outputs before deployment.
- Receive mentoring from experienced SDETs and enjoy real ownership early in your career with opportunities for growth into product development roles.
- Join a globally distributed team in a regulated environment that values diversity, inclusion, and flexible working arrangements for all employees.
What You'll Do
As a Software Development Engineer in Test – AI-Driven Testing, you will immerse yourself in an innovative QA environment where agentic AI tools handle much of the mechanical work. Your primary focus will be on tasks requiring human insight: deciding what’s worth testing, validating generated tests for genuine failure scenarios, identifying misleading passing suites, and distinguishing between product bugs and environmental issues. You’ll author robust automated UI and API tests using Playwright and TypeScript across various platform surfaces. Daily responsibilities include directing AI agents for test planning and code generation while maintaining critical oversight over their outputs. You’ll triage regression runs with precision—filing actionable bug reports—and uphold suite honesty by linking failures to known issues. Maintaining CI pipelines via GitHub Actions ensures reliability across releases. Occasionally you’ll step into development territory to fix minor bugs directly within the monorepo. Peer reviews are integral; you’ll both give and receive evidence-based feedback on test PRs. Collaboration is key as you connect with colleagues worldwide to share knowledge and nurture a supportive network.
- Author and maintain automated UI and API tests using Playwright and TypeScript to cover trading, custody, and customer portal surfaces of the platform.
- Direct agentic AI tools for planning tests, generating code, triaging failures, reviewing pull requests, and ensure all outputs are thoroughly verified before shipping.
- Triage nightly regression and smoke runs by separating genuine product bugs from environmental noise or test-side defects; file clear bug reports that developers can act on.
- Ensure the integrity of the test suite by linking failing tests to known bugs, releasing them when fixes land, and preventing silent skips or warnings from hiding real defects.
- Run and maintain suites in continuous integration environments such as GitHub Actions; help keep pipelines green, fast, and trustworthy.
- Maintain traceability of test cases within test-case-management tooling to ensure comprehensive coverage and accountability.
- Occasionally cross the boundary between testing and development by fixing small bugs or making improvements directly within the monorepo through standard PR processes.
- Review teammates’ test pull requests and respond constructively to review findings—including those raised by AI reviewers—with evidence-based feedback.
- Collaborate closely with developers, QA engineers, and product owners across a globally distributed team to foster shared understanding and communal problem-solving.
What You Bring
Your proven experience as a Software Development Engineer in Test – AI-Driven Testing will demonstrate hands-on involvement in software testing or QA automation within complex environments. You bring technical proficiency with JavaScript/TypeScript—or show adaptability in learning new languages rapidly—paired with deep knowledge of web applications and HTTP APIs. Your enthusiasm for AI-assisted workflows means you’re comfortable delegating tasks to intelligent agents yet remain vigilant about their output quality. Clear written communication is central; you excel at drafting precise bug reports and review comments that facilitate communal understanding among global teams. Attention to detail ensures honest reporting of failures rather than masking defects behind false positives. Experience with Playwright or similar frameworks strengthens your candidacy while familiarity with financial services concepts or digital assets provides additional context for platform-specific challenges. Skills in real-time data processing (WebSockets), database management (SQL/PostgreSQL), CI pipeline maintenance (GitHub Actions), or performance testing further enhance your profile. Above all else, your collaborative spirit enables you to thrive within diverse teams dedicated to nurturing each other’s growth.
- Hands-on experience in software testing, QA automation or software development—typically 3–6 years though flexibility exists for exceptional candidates.
- Working knowledge of JavaScript or TypeScript—or demonstrable ability to quickly learn new programming languages as needed.
- Solid understanding of web applications and HTTP APIs including requests/responses, status codes, JSON formatting, authentication mechanisms.
- Genuine interest in AI-assisted engineering; comfortable leveraging AI tools for real tasks while maintaining healthy scepticism about their outputs.
- Excellent written English skills; clarity in prompts, bug reports, test plans, and review comments is essential for success in an agentic workflow.
- Meticulous attention to detail coupled with honest reporting; transparent explanations of failing tests are highly valued over unexplained successes.
- Experience with Playwright (or Cypress/Selenium) is advantageous but not mandatory.
- Background building or maintaining shared test frameworks—such as fixtures, page objects or CI wiring—is beneficial beyond writing specs alone.
- Exposure to financial services or capital markets—including order lifecycles, settlement processes or custody concepts—is helpful but not required.
- Familiarity with WebSockets/real-time data handling, SQL/PostgreSQL databases or CI pipelines like GitHub Actions adds value to your application.
- Understanding of digital assets or blockchain technologies is considered a plus.
- Performance or load testing experience (using k6/JMeter or similar) is nice-to-have but not essential.
