Software Engineer

We’re hiring a Software Engineer at PassportReader.

PassportReader builds infrastructure for high-assurance identity verification using government-signed data from passports, ID cards, and digital wallets.

Our product combines NFC chip reading, cryptographic document verification, mobile SDKs, APIs, face matching, liveness, and emerging EUDI wallet flows into one developer-friendly platform.

We’re looking for a cracked engineer who wants to work close to the metal and close to the product.

You’ll work on things like:

• Native iOS and Android SDKs

• NFC communication with passports and national ID cards

• ICAO 9303 / eMRTD chip reading

• Cryptographic verification of government-issued credentials

• EUDI wallet and digital credential integrations

• Backend APIs and developer tooling

• Reliability, performance, and security across the full verification flow

This role is a good fit if you enjoy building systems where correctness matters. Identity verification is not CRUD. The hard parts are protocol details, mobile edge cases, cryptography, document formats, hardware behavior, and making all of it feel simple for developers and end users.

You might be a fit if you have strong experience with some of:

• C++

• Swift / iOS

• Kotlin / Android

• TypeScript / backend APIs

• Cryptography, PKI, certificates, or digital signatures

• NFC, smart cards, passports, eID cards, or mobile wallets

• Security-sensitive infrastructure

• Building SDKs or developer-facing products

You do not need to know everything already. But you should be comfortable going deep, reading specifications, debugging strange edge cases, and owning important parts of the system end to end.

We’re a small team, so this is a high-impact role. You’ll help shape the core product, architecture, engineering culture, and how high-assurance identity verification works across passports, ID cards, and digital wallets.

Location: Stockholm / remote-friendly within Europe.
