The Software Engineer (Data) role is for you if you are an experienced software engineer who loves turning messy, real-world data into clean, reliable systems. Salary: £60,000 to £70,000 based on experience Please note: We are unable to offer visa sponsorship for this role. Responsibilities: Design, build, and ship client ETL pipelines end-to-end — from interpreting a bank's raw source data through to a validated, production-ready mapping onto the FIRE regulatory data standard Maintain and lead the improvement of the shared ETL framework (schema validation, file handling, FastAPI service layer) used across all client integrations Write efficient, well-tested mapping and validation code, including ground-truth/regression tests for new and existing ETLs Review code and provide constructive feedback to peers and junior engineers Mentor junior engineers on Python best practices and software design Collaborate with QA, product, and senior engineers — and directly with client-facing teams — to resolve ambiguity in source data specs and ship reliable, accurate features Must-have 3-5 years of professional experience building production software in Python Experience with FastAPI (or a similar web framework) Strong understanding of ETL / data-mapping patterns — transforming inconsistent, real-world source data (e.g. CSV extracts) into a normalised target schema, including handling defaults, missing fields, and enumerated value mappings Hands-on experience with structured data validation (e.g. JSON Schema), and comfort treating a formal schema as a contract between systems Professional experience with Docker, including multi-stage builds Solid understanding of RESTful API design Solid grasp of Git and standard version-control workflows in a team environment, including working with git submodules Solid understanding of data structures, algorithms, and system design principles Comfort working in a strictly typed, linted Python codebase (type hints, static type checking, enforced formatting/linting standards) Nice-to-have Hands-on experience with DuckDB or another embedded/columnar analytical engine Experience or interest in the financial services / regulatory reporting domain (loans, deposits, securities, liquidity, credit risk, capital) Professional experience processing large volumes of data (complex data pipelines), particularly maintaining many similar-but-distinct integrations rather than a single monolithic application Experience contributing to or maintaining an open, schema-driven data standard Skills And Qualifications Track record of shipping and owning features in production Clear communicator — able to explain technical decisions to peers and work directly with product and client-facing teams to resolve ambiguity in incomplete or inconsistent data specs Close attention to detail; accuracy is critical when outputs feed directly into regulatory filings 25 days' holiday + public holidays Flexible holiday: choose when you take your holidays by swapping bank holidays if you would like Additional tenure-based holiday: an extra day of annual leave for every year of service after 2 years Flexible working hours and remote working (subject to conditions) Monthly social events Annual ski trip and residential offsites £500 ‘work from home’ set up budget when you join £500 personal training & development budget per year Enhanced maternity and paternity leave (subject to conditions) Company pension (Nest) Perkbox benefits plan
