The Role

We're looking for a motivated Backend Engineer who's comfortable in PHP, Python, or Node.js and excited to build AI-powered features. You'll improve and scale our existing systems while helping build new services and APIs, working closely with experienced engineers on an international team. You'll learn through code reviews, pairing sessions, and design discussions - and steadily grow toward owning larger pieces of the platform end-to-end.

What You'll Do

• Improve our backend: Strengthen the performance, reliability, and maintainability of our existing services - bug fixes, refactors, test coverage, and small migrations - with guidance from senior engineers.
• Build services and APIs: Implement and maintain secure, well-documented REST endpoints that power our mobile and web apps, taking on more design ownership as you grow.
• Contribute to AI features: Help build the pipelines behind our AI-powered features - integrating LLM APIs, working with embeddings and retrieval, and adding logging and evaluation so we can measure quality and cost.
• Champion quality and developer experience: Write meaningful tests, keep documentation current, follow secure-by-default patterns, and contribute improvements to our CI/CD and tooling.
• Collaborate cross-functionally: Partner with Product, Design, and Customer teams to ship clear, practical solutions that users adopt quickly.
• Learn DevOps: Gain hands-on exposure to containerization, infrastructure as code, and runtime operations alongside our platform team.

What We're Looking For

• 1–4 years of experience building production backend systems.
• Proficiency in at least one of Node.js, PHP, or Python, with eagerness to pick up the others.
• Working knowledge of relational databases (MySQL) and solid SQL fundamentals.
• Understanding of REST API design, data modeling, and clean, readable code.
• Familiarity with Git-based workflows, plus some exposure to cloud platforms (AWS preferred), Docker, or CI/CD tools (e.g. GitHub Actions).
• Hands-on experience with LLM APIs, embeddings/vector stores, or RAG pipelines.
• Solid fundamentals in testing, security, and privacy, and a willingness to learn monitoring and alerting practices.
• Clear written and verbal communication; comfortable collaborating async across time zones.
• A growth mindset: you ask questions, take feedback constructively, and learn quickly.

Nice to Have

• Exposure to caching (Redis), queues/streams (e.g. SQS, Kafka), or event-driven patterns.
• Experience with monitoring/observability tools (e.g. Datadog).

Location

Remote within India, or based at Snapfix headquarters in Ahmedabad.
