About Shippo At Shippo, our vision is bold and clear: we are the shipping layer of the internet. Our mission is to make every merchant successful through excellent shipping, delivering world-class logistics technology and infrastructure. We’re building the backbone of global e-commerce — connecting merchants to carriers worldwide through a single API and intuitive dashboard. As a remote-first and globally distributed team , we believe flexibility fuels trust, autonomy, and performance. Our diverse perspectives — across continents, cultures, and time zones — drive our innovation and enable us to build solutions used by businesses everywhere. We invest in modern, scalable technology so our teams can build, ship, and iterate with confidence. Your impact starts here: every person at Shippo plays a direct role in shaping the infrastructure that powers global commerce and makes shipping simpler for businesses around the world. How we will deliver success together: Shippo Engineering is seeking a Software Engineer III to join Carrier Capabilities, a new team building a faster, more consistent way to connect Shippo to the world's shipping carriers. The Software Engineer III is responsible for designing, building, and delivering components of our carrier integration platform and the integrations that run on it, enabling Shippo to launch new carriers in a fraction of the time it takes today. The scope of this role includes new integration tooling, the maintenance and modernization of existing carrier integrations, and the internal tools that our support, product, and partner teams rely on every day. Success in this role looks like carrier integrations that ship on schedule and stay healthy in production. You will own the end-to-end quality of your work, design through release and monitoring, and contribute to the decisions the team makes about how the platform evolves. You will serve merchants who depend on carrier coverage and reliability, the internal teams who operate these integrations, and the carrier partners we connect to. You'll have a direct hand in the metrics the team is measured on: time to launch a new carrier, integration reliability, and the operational load these systems create. Shipping & handling responsibilities Design, build, and deliver software components of our carrier integration platform, including new code, refactoring, and deprecating what no longer serves us. Build and maintain carrier API integrations, improving the reliability and maintainability of existing ones as you go. Own the end-to-end quality of your work, from design through build, release, and monitoring in production. Partner with product, support, and other engineering teams to understand what capabilities they need from carriers, and turn that into working software. Build internal tools that improve how Shippo launches, operates, and troubleshoots carrier integrations. Contribute to the team's technical direction through story refinement, design reviews, and code reviews, raising the quality bar for everyone. Participate in the on-call rotation, responding with urgency to operational issues and owning resolution within your area. Contribute to the growth of your teammates through peer review, design feedback, documentation, and helping new hires ramp up. Your shipping requirements 4+ years of experience building and shipping production software. A track record of delivering software components independently, from design through release and monitoring. Experience working with third-party APIs and integrations, and the messiness that comes with them. Comfort debugging and operating distributed systems in production, including participating in on-call. Strong written and verbal communication in English, with the ability to work effectively with stakeholders across teams and time zones. Experience giving and receiving thoughtful code and design feedback, and a genuine interest in helping teammates improve. A working knowledge of at least one of Python or Go, and the ability to become effective in the other. We know that no candidate matches every bullet. If you're close and excited about the problem, we'd like to hear from you. Bonus Experience in logistics, shipping, or carrier/marketplace integrations. Experience with authentication and API security practices. Experience with data analysis and reporting to inform technical decisions. Experience applying AI tooling to speed up development and sharing what you learn with your team. Experience working in a distributed, remote-first engineering organization.
