Req ID: 15772 Work Flexibility: Remote We use technology to solve problems in spaces, light, and more things to come… for our customers, our communities, and our planet. Acuity Inc. (NYSE: AYI) is a market-leading industrial technology company. We use technology to solve problems in spaces, light, and more things to come. Through our two business segments, Acuity Brands Lighting and Lighting Controls (ABL) and the Intelligent Spaces Group (ISG), we design, manufacture, and bring to market products and services that make a valuable difference in people’s lives. We are positioned at the intersection of sustainability and technology. Our businesses develop technology that helps save our customers energy and reduce their carbon emissions. We achieve growth through the development of innovative new products and services, including lighting, lighting controls, building management solutions, and location-aware applications. Job Summary As a Lead Software Engineer, Full Stack in the Intelligent AV team, you will lead the design and technical direction of VisionSuite Designer — the browser-based application, embedded within Q-SYS Designer, through which integrators and users configure and control the intelligent audio-video experiences that power modern meeting spaces and smarter buildings. You will own architecture and key technical decisions for a small, focused team, working across a modern frontend stack (React/Redux, TypeScript) while interfacing directly with the native Q-SYS platform through C++/C# components and real-time WebSocket and REST communication. As VisionSuite extends further into the cloud and deeper into the broader Q-SYS ecosystem, you will help shape how the product evolves — both technically and as an experience. At the Staff level, technical depth is a given; what sets this role apart is the ability to operate effectively across the wider organization. You will partner closely with Product, work directly with stakeholders to refine and validate solutions, and bring genuine product and UX sensibility to your engineering decisions — ensuring the team builds not just correct software, but the right software. This position is a hybrid position based in Zurich, Switzerland. Key Tasks & Responsibilities (Essential Functions) Own the architecture and technical direction of VisionSuite Designer, a browser-based application embedded within Q-SYS Designer. Design and implement full-stack features across a modern frontend stack (React, Redux, TypeScript) and the interfaces connecting it to the native Q-SYS platform. Build and maintain reliable real-time and request/response communication between the Designer application and Q-SYS components (WebSocket, REST). Contribute to and extend Q-SYS platform components in C++/C# where the product requires it. Partner with Product to shape the roadmap, refine requirements, and make sound trade-offs across scope, quality, and time. Work directly with stakeholders and users to prototype, test, and validate solutions, iterating toward the right outcome. Champion UX quality and a coherent, usable experience across the application. Help drive VisionSuite's evolution into the cloud and its integration within the broader Q-SYS ecosystem. Provide technical leadership and mentorship through architecture, code review, and hands-on collaboration. Elevate engineering standards and act as a force multiplier across the team and adjacent groups. Skills and Minimum Experience Required Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience. 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, including significant full-stack web development. Deep proficiency in modern frontend development with React and TypeScript. Solid experience designing REST APIs and real-time communication (WebSocket) between frontend and backend or native systems. Familiarity with C++ and comfort working across the boundary between web applications and native components. Proven ownership of architecture and technical decisions within a subsystem, product, or team. Demonstrated ability to partner with Product and bring product sense to engineering decisions. Strong stakeholder management, with the ability to refine, test, and validate solutions collaboratively. UX affinity and a user-centered approach to building software. Excellent communication skills and the ability to operate effectively across a larger organization. A strong willingness to learn new technologies, domains, and parts of the stack. Preferred Skills and Experience Experience with C# Familiarity with the Q-SYS ecosystem (Core, Designer, UCI, QRC) or professional AV systems. Experience building or extending browser-based applications embedded in or tightly coupled to desktop/native software. Experience with cloud platforms and extending products into cloud-connected services. Experience collaborating closely with UX/Design or contributing to design systems. Other Your Mindset You operate as a technical leader — you set direction, make architectural decisions, and raise the bar for the team, while staying hands-on. You think in products, not just features — you have real product sense and care about the experience integrators and end users actually have. You are a natural collaborator across boundaries — you work fluently with Product, Design, and stakeholders across the organization, and you know the hardest problems are rarely purely technical. You have strong UX affinity — you notice friction, advocate for the user, and help translate ambiguous needs into clean solutions. You validate before you scale — you work with stakeholders to prototype, test, and refine rather than assume. You are endlessly willing to learn — new languages, new domains, new layers of the stack; you go where the problem is. You care about clarity, maintainability, and doing things well.
