Job Summary The Software Engineer is responsible for designing, building, testing, and supporting mSupply's mobile and backend applications, with a primary focus on native Android development and C#/.NET backend services. Working in an Agile Scrum team, the engineer builds native Android applications in Kotlin that integrate with .NET Web APIs hosted on Microsoft Azure. This role partners with product owners, designers, QA, and senior engineers to deliver high-quality, maintainable mobile experiences and supporting services for mSupply technicians, drivers, and customers in the field. This is a fully remote position based in the United States. Job Duties & Responsibilities Design, develop, test, and maintain native Android applications using Kotlin, Jetpack libraries, and modern Android architecture components Build and maintain backend Web APIs and services using C#, .NET (Core/8+), ASP.NET Web API, and Entity Framework to support mobile clients Implement responsive, offline-capable Android UIs using Jetpack Compose (preferred) and/or XML views, following Material Design guidelines Integrate Android applications with REST APIs, push notifications (FCM), device hardware (camera, GPS, barcode scanners, Bluetooth), and local storage (Room, SQLite) Publish and maintain applications in the Google Play Store, including signing, versioning, release tracks, staged rollouts, and Play Console management Design and optimize relational database schemas and queries in Azure SQL / SQL Server to support mobile workloads Deploy, monitor, and troubleshoot .NET services hosted in Microsoft Azure (App Service, Functions, Storage, Key Vault, Application Insights) Participate in CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps for both .NET backend services and Android (Gradle) builds, signing, and distribution Write clean, well-tested, and well-documented code that follows Android, Kotlin, and Microsoft/.NET best practices Participate actively in Scrum ceremonies including planning, daily stand-ups, backlog refinement, reviews, and retrospectives Collaborate with peers through code reviews, pair programming, and technical design discussions Investigate and resolve defects, crashes, ANRs, and performance issues across mobile and backend tiers Continuously learn new technologies, tools, and patterns to improve individual and team effectiveness Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent professional experience 2+ years of professional software engineering experience, including hands-on native Android development Solid hands-on experience building native Android applications in Kotlin (Java experience a plus) Working knowledge of Android Jetpack (ViewModel, LiveData/Flow, Navigation, Room, WorkManager) and dependency injection (Hilt/Dagger) Experience with Jetpack Compose and/or XML-based Android UI development following Material Design Hands-on experience with C# and the .NET ecosystem (.NET Core/8+, ASP.NET Web API, Entity Framework) for backend services Experience consuming REST APIs in Android using Retrofit, OkHttp, Ktor, or similar, including handling authentication, caching, and offline scenarios Experience designing and querying relational databases (Azure SQL, SQL Server, or equivalent) and mobile persistence (Room/SQLite) Exposure to Microsoft Azure services such as App Service, Functions, Storage, and Application Insights Familiarity with Google Play Console, app signing, release management, and mobile crash/ANR monitoring (Firebase Crashlytics, App Center, or similar) Familiarity with Git, pull-request-based workflows, and CI/CD concepts (Azure DevOps preferred) Understanding of software engineering fundamentals including data structures, algorithms, OOP, SOLID principles, and mobile design patterns (MVVM, MVI) Working knowledge of unit and instrumentation testing (JUnit, Espresso, xUnit/NUnit, or similar) Preferred: hands-on experience with AI-first development using Claude Code or similar AI coding assistants (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Cursor) to accelerate delivery, improve code quality, and automate routine engineering tasks Effective written and verbal communication skills; comfortable collaborating in a distributed, remote team Experience or demonstrated ability using AI-powered tools (e.g., AI-assisted project tracking, summarization, or workflow automation) to improve delivery efficiency.
