Job Title: Specification Writer Job Description The Specification Writer develops, edits, and maintains technical specifications for sports lighting and related infrastructure projects. This role focuses on creating CSI-format specifications that comply with industry standards, codes, and project requirements, while closely aligning with the design intent. You collaborate with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders to deliver accurate, consistent, and competitive specification packages that support successful project delivery in the sports architecture and construction sectors. Responsibilities Develop, edit, and maintain detailed technical specifications for sports lighting and related infrastructure projects. Create CSI-format specifications that comply with industry standards, codes, and project-specific requirements. Collaborate with engineering, sales, and project management teams to develop comprehensive, project-specific specification packages. Review project plans, drawings, and contract documents to ensure consistency between specifications and design intent. Provide specification support to business development and sales teams for client pursuits and new project opportunities. Work directly with architects, engineers, consultants, and owners to address specification-related questions and clarify requirements. Research industry standards, codes, and emerging technologies to maintain best-in-class specification content. Manage and update master specifications, specification libraries, and supporting documentation to ensure they remain current and accurate. Participate in quality assurance and quality control reviews to verify the accuracy, completeness, and consistency of specifications. Support value engineering efforts while maintaining required project performance criteria and design quality. Monitor specification trends and competitive positioning within the sports construction and lighting industries. Ensure code compliance and alignment with architectural plans, construction documents, and procurement requirements. Essential Skills 10+ years of experience as a Specification Writer, Architectural Specifier, Technical Writer, Project Architect, or in a closely related role. Strong knowledge of CSI MasterFormat and established practices in construction documentation and specification development. Proven experience reviewing construction drawings, project manuals, and contract documents for accuracy and consistency. Solid understanding of construction methods, materials, and building systems used in architectural and sports-related projects. Exceptional written communication skills with the ability to produce clear, precise, and technically accurate documentation. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite for document creation, editing, and collaboration. Experience using specification management tools to organize, maintain, and update specification libraries. Ability to interpret architectural plans and construction documents to align specifications with design intent. Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality assurance in technical writing and documentation. Additional Skills & Qualifications Background in architecture, construction, or sports facility design is highly beneficial. Experience with code compliance and procurement processes in construction projects. Familiarity with sports architecture and sports lighting projects is a plus. Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams including engineering, sales, and project management. Comfort working directly with architects, engineers, consultants, and project owners to resolve technical questions. Interest in monitoring industry trends and competitive positioning within sports construction and lighting. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Kansas City, MO. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $43.27 - $48.07/hr.
