Senior Human Resources Generalist Hybrid (DMV) · Full-Time · Exempt 2026 launched NAEYC's 100th year serving children, families and early childhood educators. This anniversary is a testament to the staying power of a mission-driven organization in a sector where 30% of nonprofits cease to exist within 10 years and only 4% of small nonprofits last more than 75 years. That kind of longevity doesn't happen by accident - it happens because people show up, take care of each other, and get the details right. That's exactly what we need from our next Senior HR Generalist: a benefits-savvy professional who thrives on solving problems for people, not just processing them - someone who double-checks the details, remembers what an employee asked last time, and genuinely enjoys being the go-to resource for a health plan question or a life event. The Role As Senior HR Generalist, you'll be the primary point of contact for employee benefits at a mission-driven, 100-person organization - owning the full lifecycle of benefits programs, broker and carrier relationships, HRIS configuration, and compliance. You'll also flex across the rest of HR, from onboarding to engagement, bringing a customer-service mindset and a sharp eye for detail to everything you touch. What You'll Do Serve as NAEYC's go-to benefits expert, managing medical, dental, vision, retirement, life, disability, and supplemental plans Be the friendly, reliable first response for employee benefits questions, enrollments, life events, and leave requests Manage relationships with brokers, carriers, and retirement plan providers Keep HRIS data (ADP Workforce Now) accurate, compliant, and running smoothly Spot manual, error-prone processes and fix them - automation and continuous improvement are part of the job Support recruitment, onboarding, engagement, and general HR needs as they arise Monitor the HR inbox and respond to employee questions within 24 hours What You Bring 5+ years of progressive HR Generalist experience, with real depth in benefits administration A genuine customer-service orientation - you like helping people and it shows Exceptional attention to detail and the organizational skills to juggle many priorities at once Hands-on HRIS experience (ADP Workforce Now strongly preferred) A process-improvement mindset: you notice inefficiencies and fix them Clear, confident communication with employees and leaders alike Bachelor's degree in HR or related field (or equivalent experience); PHR/SPHR/SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP a plus Integrity, discretion, and a genuine commitment to NAEYC's mission Work Arrangement This hybrid role is based in the DC Metro Region, with on-site presence required two days per week (Wednesdays plus one other). NAEYC is not able to support fully remote work for this position at this time. NAEYC is an Equal Opportunity Employer. We welcome applicants of all backgrounds and are committed to building a diverse, inclusive workforce dedicated to supporting young children, families, and early childhood educators.
