This position takes ownership of high-value or escalated claims, manages the claims process, determines liability, sets reserves, and negotiates settlements to minimize the company's exposure and cost. The role also includes mentorship of less experienced examiners and involvement in the defense of litigated claims. Position Functions: Act as the senior examiner for high-value claims or those escalated from less experienced examiners. Review and settle claims for bodily injury and property damages while managing claims costs through strategic negotiation. Determine liability for claims involving damage to third-party property and/or bodily injury, minimizing company exposure and cost while upholding corporate integrity. Gather evidence and assign independent adjusters or defense counsel to cases as necessary, coordinating their activities to ensure comprehensive claims management. Set and update reserve amounts for claims, ensuring they are aligned with the severity and potential outcome. Report claims to excess carriers in accordance with reporting requirements and keep them informed of ongoing developments. Negotiate settlements with claimants for property damage and bodily injury within the prescribed authority level. Request additional settlement authority from management when claims exceed reserve limits, keeping management apprised of claims status and negotiation progress. Manage and direct the litigation process including the retention of counsel and experts. Set clear expectations for all parties involved in litigation, ensuring timely and effective handling of cases. Work with defense counsel to help build a defense strategy and oversee claims through litigation, providing all necessary documentation and strategic direction. Act as a mentor to less experienced claims examiners, offering guidance and sharing expertise to develop their skills and ensure quality claims management. Act as the primary point of contact for claimants, drivers, attorneys, and other relevant parties. Answer all questions related to claims and keep all involved parties up to date on claim status. Handle rebuttal claims effectively. Participate in a 24-hour on-call rotation for DOT accidents. Travel as needed (up to 10%) based on business requirements. Perform other responsibilities as assigned by management. Collaborate in-person with all levels of the organization to harness collective intelligence of the workforce. Attend all in-person meetings and trainings on recent developments, goals, and objectives. Participate in such discussions by offering input and advice. Regularly engage remotely and in-person with customers and potential customers to establish rapport, open communication, and expectations. What We’re Looking For: Education High school diploma or equivalent required Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent experience required Equivalent years of experience are defined as one year of professional experience for each year of college requested Experience 8+ years of applicable experience in claims adjusting required 3+ years of applicable experience with bodily injury and litigated claims preferred Transportation, Logistics, and/or Tech industry experience a plus Skills & Abilities Strong telephone and written communication skills Strong reasoning and analytical skills Strong negotiation/consulting skills Proficient in use of computer including Microsoft Office suite Adept at assessing organizational dynamics and managing change Works quickly and efficiently.
