Job Title: Senior PowerBI and Database Administrator Location: Remote (U.S. based) FLSA Classification Exempt Job Description: Orbital Engineering is looking for a Senior Power BI SME and Database Administrator to lead our enterprise BI environment from the ground up. You'll arrive on Day 1 ready to build — designing high-impact dashboards, establishing governance standards, and mentoring a growing team. You should have a comprehensive understanding of database setup and administration, relational database architecture, data governance, and the movement of data across enterprise systems. This is a hands-on role with real ownership, supporting executives, project managers, and operations leadership across the enterprise. Essential Functions Power BI Development Build, maintain, and optimize dashboards, reports, semantic models, and data visualizations supporting enterprise decision-making Migrate and improve existing dashboards, including embedding within Deltek Vantagepoint Develop DAX measures, data models, drill paths, and reporting logic for accurate, scalable analysis Troubleshoot and resolve performance, modeling, and calculation issues across environments Platform Administration & Governance Own the Power BI tenant end-to-end — workspace governance, security, deployment pipelines, and platform configuration Implement Row-Level Security (RLS), Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD) integration, and data access controls Configure and maintain On-Premises Data Gateways Build toward a self-service BI model with training materials and governance frameworks that reduce one-off requests Database Administration & SQL Support SQL Server environments including query optimization, data modeling, and performance tuning Write and optimize advanced SQL — CTEs, complex joins, and performance analysis Full DBA scope (backups, HA/DR, replication) to be confirmed during hiring process Automation & Workflow Build automated workflows using Power Automate and Microsoft Power Platform Develop PowerShell scripts and API-based automation to reduce manual administration Mentorship & Standards Mentor junior BI team members on DAX, data modeling, dashboard development, and best practices Establish and enforce team standards for development, documentation, and delivery quality Data Sources You'll Work With Deltek Vantagepoint Jira Aconex SharePoint SQL Server Excel Work Management System AutoCAD Other Duties Please note that this job posting does not list all duties and responsibilities that are required of this job. Qualifications Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree required; Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, or related field preferred 8+ years in Power BI development, platform administration, or a related BI/data role Proven experience building Power BI environments from scratch — governance, naming standards, deployment pipelines Experience migrating Tableau dashboards to Power BI Strong DAX, data modeling, and visualization design skills Advanced SQL — CTEs, complex joins, query optimization, performance tuning SQL Server database experience — query development, data modeling, and support Experience with On-Premises Data Gateways and Power Automate Strong communicator — able to translate data findings for non-technical audiences Proven mentorship experience Preferred Qualifications Power BI Data Analyst Associate certification (PL-300) Master's degree in a related technical discipline Deltek Vantagepoint integration experience Microsoft Entra ID / Azure AD, PowerShell, Azure DevOps / CI/CD pipeline experience Python (Pandas) for data preparation Microsoft Fabric familiarity Background in engineering, utilities, or industrial services Location Note: This is a remote position. Compensation is based on market data and internal equity and may vary depending on the candidate’s location.
