Senior Renewable Energy Engineer with California Electrical PE Certification


OurEnergy, LLC provides renewable energy infrastructure engineering consulting, design, and project management services focused on electrical power generation, storage, transmission, and distribution for commercial, industrial, municipal, and utility-scale installations. We serve clients and develop innovative critical infrastructure projects across the United States, Latin America/Caribbean, Pacific Islands, and Africa.


We seek an experienced Senior Renewable Energy Engineer who holds an Electrical Professional Engineering license in the State of California. This role will serve as a team lead for systems-level project assessment, planning, design, and execution. The right candidate will influence executive-level, client-facing, and cross-functional team communications, scopes, schedules, and budgets and contribute engineering insights and designs to project success.

The engineering team lead role requires demonstrable past success with complex electrical power infrastructure design and construction, including renewable energy generation, storage, and distribution. Preference will be given to candidates with backgrounds in solar, wind, battery storage, and/or broader electrical power infrastructure. Additional requirements include demonstrable executive-level engagement, strategic thinking, excellent verbal & written communication, multitasking, and people coaching/development skills.


You and cross-functional teams will plan, lead, and execute multiple simultaneous large-scale project plans. Deliverables include assessment, engineering, and overall implementation management toward renewable energy projects diligence and origination, techno-economic feasibility studies, energy infrastructure requirements analysis, systems designs, systems integration, interconnection, and support during permitting and construction. You will additionally oversee specifications and requirements for energy systems procurement, construction, project management, and quality control as well EMS software solutions and planning ahead for systems operations and maintenance.


What You’ll Do:


  • Serve as an engineering team lead resource toward multiple simultaneous energy infrastructure project assessments, designs, and implementations.
  • Collaborate cross functionally with internal, client, and business partner resources representing technical, operational, sales, and management interests.
  • Provide energy infrastructure experience to project scoping, budgeting, and scheduling.
  • Oversee the study, design, development, testing, and deployment of DERs, microgrids, and energy infrastructure systems.
  • Ensure adherence to best practices, industry regulations, and quality assurance processes.
  • Monitor project progress and performance metrics to identify areas for improvement.
  • Prepare studies, including cost-benefit analysis for competing solutions resulting in robust, cost effective designs
  • Prepare mechanical and electrical equipment descriptions, perform equipment sizing and prepare equipment data sheets
  • Prepare equipment technical specifications and equipment RFQs to request budgetary pricing to support study or project work
  • Review vendor data and drawings, prepare and coordinate internal drawings and technical workflows.
  • Select equipment and prepare equipment layouts.
  • Assure all engineering designs meet applicable codes and standards including company standards
  • Trouble-shoot existing systems in the field, determine modifications to existing systems to change performance, etc
  • Communicate and interface openly and frequently with Project Managers, Project Engineers and other Managers of engineers
  • Participate in periodic project reviews and client discussions, as required, to ensure client satisfaction
  • Coordinate engineering activities with procurement assuring excellent communication and review of vendor documents and approval prior to final sign off and procurement of all mechanical equipment
  • Promote value engineering and technical review through periodic reviews of Data Sheets and Company standards
  • Maintain strict compliance and technical support with Quality Assurance and Quality Control processes and procedures as well as EH&S
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends and emerging technologies to influence innovation within the team.
  • Contribute to a culture of collaboration, continuous learning, and professional growth.


Must Haves:


  • Must hold an Electrical Professional Engineer (PE) certification in the State of California
  • Must hold US citizenship or legal work authorization (no immigration support or sponsorship provided)
  • Must be available to work during Pacific Time Zone work hours (remote work allowed, but hybrid, remote/in office is preferred)
  • No relocation assistance provided


Qualifications You’ll Bring:


  • Bachelor's degree in an electrical engineering or related field; Master's degree preferred
  • Demonstrated experience as a renewable energy engineering team lead
  • Five or more years of experience in an electrical power or renewable energy infrastructure field
  • Strong knowledge of energy infrastructure project progression and potential pitfalls
  • Deep aptitude for and knowledge of energy technologies, including solar, wind, battery storage, fuel cell, fossil-fuel generators, microgrids, transmission & distribution, and energy management systems
  • Proficient with software platforms including Solesca, Xendee, AutoCAD, Smartsheets, and Google Workspace
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to make sound decisions under pressure
  • Exceptional communication skills with the ability to effectively influence and collaborate with cross-functional teams and executives


Expected Compensation:


  • $120,000 - $175,000 or annual equivalent
  • Participation in OurEnergy’s dynamic-equity-sharing program
