Job Description Job Title: Staff Accountant II Department: Finance Responsible To: Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Status: Exempt Position Summary: The Staff Accountant II performs technical accounting functions supporting the integrity of the general ledger and the organization's financial reporting. This position is responsible for the monthly close process, account reconciliations, financial analyses, fixed assets, prepaid expenses, debt schedules, and other technical accounting responsibilities. Essential Responsibilities: General Ledger Accounting Lead monthly and year-end closing activities. Prepare and post journal entries. Maintain supporting schedules. Ensure accuracy of the general ledger. Account Reconciliations Prepare and reconcile balance sheet accounts. Investigate and resolve reconciling items. Maintain documentation supporting reconciliations. Financial Analysis Prepare monthly variance analyses. Analyze operating results and trends. Assist with financial reporting and management analysis. Fixed Assets and Balance Sheet Accounting Maintain fixed asset records. Record depreciation. Maintain and reconcile prepaid expenses. Maintain debt schedules and related accounting. Budgeting and Audit Support Assist with budget preparation. Support forecasting activities. Prepare audit schedules and supporting documentation. Assist with implementation of accounting standards. Internal Controls and Process Improvement Recommend improvements to accounting processes. Maintain accounting policies and procedures. Support finance system enhancements. Cross-Training Provide backup support for payroll, accounts payable, and disbursements as needed. Assist the Controller with special accounting projects. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance preferred. Two to four years of accounting experience. Strong understanding of GAAP. Experience with financial statement preparation and reconciliations. Advanced Microsoft Excel skills. Experience with QuickBooks, Sage, etc. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
