What You’ll Do Architect, build, and evolve reusable AI platform services and APIs that product teams can adopt across multiple use cases. Design and implement robust orchestration patterns for multi-step AI workflows, including retrieval, tool use, validation, fallback, and state management. Own the evaluation layer for AI systems by building test harnesses, golden datasets, regression checks, and quality metrics that improve reliability over time. Establish observability patterns for AI systems, including tracing, prompt and version tracking, latency monitoring, error analysis, and cost visibility. Design for production from day one, with strong attention to reliability, performance, maintainability, and operational resilience. Partner with Security, Platform, and application engineering teams to embed guardrails, structured outputs, policy controls, and safe defaults into shared AI services. Lead technical design reviews and influence engineering decisions across teams adopting the platform. Define and document reusable patterns, reference implementations, and standards that create a consistent paved path for AI development at ABC. What You’ll Need Typically 10+ years of software engineering experience, including significant experience building distributed backend systems and APIs; experience in the broader 8–14 year principal range is most aligned for this level. Proven experience taking LLM-powered or AI-assisted systems from prototype to production, including areas such as RAG, semantic search, agent workflows, or evaluation frameworks. Deep expertise in backend architecture, system design, API design, testing strategy, and performance optimization. Strong understanding of orchestration patterns, retrieval strategies, tool-use workflows, and managing complexity in multi-step AI systems. Demonstrated ability to define technical standards and influence multiple teams through architecture, design review, and strong engineering judgment. Strong production mindset, with experience designing for observability, reliability, scalability, and cost management. Excellent cross-functional collaboration skills and the ability to work effectively with Engineering, Product, Platform, and Security partners. A growth mindset and strong learning agility in a fast-moving technical space. A One Team orientation: able to enable others, build trust, and create reusable solutions rather than local optimizations. And It’s Great to Have Experience with Langfuse, LangSmith, Arize, or similar AI observability and evaluation tooling. Experience building internal developer platforms, SDKs, or shared engineering services. Experience with LLMOps practices such as prompt versioning, model routing, token management, and release controls. Familiarity with policy enforcement, safe model usage patterns, and AI governance in production environments. Experience helping teams adopt new technical patterns through documentation, reference implementations, and mentoring. What Success Looks Like Product teams can ship AI-powered capabilities faster by using shared services and well-defined platform patterns. AI workflows are measurable, observable, and reliable in production. Platform standards become the default paved path for new AI use cases across participating teams. Quality issues, regressions, and cost drivers are detected early and managed systematically. The AI enablement platform reduces duplication and helps teams move from prototype to production with greater confidence.
