Role Overview

The Staff Engineer is a senior technical leader who drives the design and delivery of complex systems spanning multiple teams. You set technical direction, raise the engineering bar through mentorship and standards, and act as a force multiplier across the organization while remaining deeply hands-on.

Responsibilities

• Lead the architecture and design of complex, cross-cutting systems that span multiple teams or services
• Drive technical strategy and make high-impact decisions on technology, tooling, and engineering standards
• Identify and resolve systemic technical risks, performance bottlenecks, and reliability issues
• Mentor and elevate engineers across levels, raising the overall quality and velocity of the team
• Partner with product and leadership to align technical roadmaps with business goals
• Establish and champion best practices for code quality, testing, security, and compliance (HIPAA, SOC 2, HITECH)
• Lead complex integrations across EHR (Epic, athenahealth) and pharmacy systems (Liberty/RedSail)
• Remain hands-on, contributing critical code and prototypes to de-risk major initiatives

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, with a track record of leading large technical initiatives
• Deep expertise in system design and architecture for scalable, reliable, distributed systems
• Demonstrated ability to influence technical direction across multiple teams without direct authority
• Strong mentorship skills and a history of growing engineers around you
• Experience owning critical production systems and making sound trade-offs under real-world constraints

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in healthcare technology, including HIPAA/SOC 2/HITECH compliance and EHR/pharmacy integrations
• Experience building AI/ML or LLM-powered products and voice automation systems
• Experience at an early- or growth-stage company shaping engineering culture and foundational architecture
