About the role: PC&C, E&C & Legal Technology is a global technology organisation within bp, responsible for delivering, operating and continuously improving digital products, platforms and services that enable People & Culture, Ethics & Compliance, Legal and Corporate functions worldwide. The Portfolio Lead is accountable for the effective governance, prioritisation, financial management, delivery oversight and value realisation of the portfolio. As a member of the leadership team, the role ensures investment decisions align to business strategy, resources are optimized, risks are actively handled and delivery outcomes generate measurable business value. The Portfolio Lead will drive a culture of data-driven decision making, customer-centricity, continuous improvement and delivery excellence across the portfolio. Please note that roles based out of SJS or Sunbury will move to Timber Square, Southwark, from Q4 2027 Key Accountabilities Portfolio Strategy & Governance Lead the development and execution of the portfolio roadmap aligned to business and technology priorities. Own portfolio planning, prioritisation and investment governance processes. Facilitate governance forums, investment reviews and executive decision-making bodies. Run project and product intake processes and lead all aspects of demand management. Monitor portfolio health, delivery performance, dependencies and critical paths. Ensure alignment between business strategies, technology roadmaps and delivery commitments. Establish and continuously improve portfolio management frameworks, standards and governance processes. Financial Stewardship & Value Delivery Accountable for portfolio financial performance including operational expenditure (Opex), investment expenditure (Capex) and forecast accuracy. Lead annual planning, budgeting, forecasting and long-range financial planning activities. Handle investment cases and funding approval processes. Drive technology cost optimisation, simplification and value realization initiatives. Track financial benefits, savings targets and investment outcomes. Maintain portfolio financial reporting and provide executive insights into spend versus value delivered. Ensure delivery within approved budgets and financial targets. Delivery Oversight & Portfolio Performance Oversee successful execution of portfolio initiatives, programmes and strategic projects. Establish performance metrics and target frameworks to measure portfolio success. Drive portfolio reporting, executive dashboards and business reviews. Monitor delivery progress and intervene proactively to address issues impacting outcomes. Ensure appropriate controls, quality standards and delivery rigors are consistently applied. Lead portfolio reviews and executive performance reporting cycles. Resource, Workforce & Supplier Management Lead portfolio-wide workforce planning and capacity management. Optimize resource allocation across strategic priorities. Lead third-party resource governance and supplier performance. Partner with delivery leaders to address resource constraints and capability requirements. Support commercial and contract management activities associated with key suppliers. Build strong partnerships across business, technology and external vendors to ensure successful delivery. Risk, Compliance & Assurance Lead the portfolio risk management framework and maintain the portfolio risk register. Identify, assess and mitigate delivery, financial, operational and technology risks. Handle issues, dependencies and partner concern processes. Support internal, external and regulatory audits. Ensure compliance with bp governance, controls, security and risk management requirements. Track and oversee remediation of audit findings and risk actions. Leadership, Capability & Continuous Improvement Provide leadership, coaching and mentoring to project, programme and product teams. Champion agile ways of working, design thinking and modern portfolio management practices. Drive organizational capability and maturity in portfolio management rigors. Develop a culture of innovation, collaboration, accountability and continuous improvement. Act as a trusted advisor to senior leaders and partners. Promote data-driven decision-making and customer-focused delivery outcomes. Essential Experience confirmed experience in portfolio, programme or technology delivery leadership roles. Demonstrated experience leading large and complex technology portfolios. Strong financial management experience including budgeting, forecasting and investment management. Experience leading strategic transformation and technology-enabled business change. Strong governance, risk management and executive partner engagement experience. Confirmed experience running cross-functional teams and third-party suppliers. Experience operating in Agile, Hybrid and Waterfall delivery environments.
