Learn more at li.me . Lime’s Payment and Fraud team is growing, we’re looking for an experienced backend engineer to help lead our team. The team has a broad set of responsibilities: you’ll be part of the team building our roadmap to enable a great customer experience, to protect Lime from fraud, and to efficiently serve the company’s needs. You’ll be expected to tackle complex and ambiguous problems by defining enabling architectures, you’ll work through others to make that architecture real. Our Payments work is essential for keeping Lime rolling. We operate as a full-stack team that owns the customer payment experience and is an owner of the financial data that powers the business. We aim for a delightful purchasing experience and a highly efficient processing system. Our Fraud work involves delivering sophisticated heuristic and model-based systems to ensure our riders can pay while preventing abuse and defending the platform. You’ll work with an established team of Backend and Mobile engineers to define and ship new capabilities by regularly collaborating with Product Management, Design, and Data to build the best possible outcomes. Working on Payments and Fraud offers the opportunity to deliver a broad range of projects, including optimizing the customer payment flow, enabling specialized capabilities for local markets, and building tools to drive our financial efficiency. This is a remote position with a requirement for candidates to reside in Canada to maintain effective collaboration across teams. What You’ll Do: Define and lead the technical direction for payment processing, fraud prevention, and financial-data platforms. You’ll ship complex and detail-focused projects by collaborating with fellow Engineers, Product Managers, Designers, Data Scientists, and representatives from Support and Finance. Build features at scale, shipping robust platforms that process millions of transactions. Understand our customers’ success and the health of our systems through monitoring and data analytics. Engage with world-class infrastructure and experiment with modern AI tools to multiply engineering effectiveness. Grow via mentorship, collaboration, and learning activities. Participate in the shaping of Lime's Engineering culture. Participate in the team's on-call rotation, responding to incidents, troubleshooting issues, and contributing to root cause analysis and service reliability improvements. Respond to and troubleshoot production issues, outages, and critical alerts during assigned on-call shifts. Escalate incidents as needed and collaborate with team members to restore service. Document issues and contribute to improvements that reduce recurring incidents. Be available to provide occasional after-hours, weekend, and holiday support while on call. About You: 8+ years of professional software development experience, and a track record of building impactful products or systems. Domain: You’ve shipped software and solved problems at scale in the payment processing, accounting, or fraud mitigation spaces. Owner's mindset: you're focused on outcomes and can solve problems to get there. Team leader: you are able to deliver large outcomes through the work of many engineers. Data driven: You instrument your work for decision making, you can reason through data to learn from our customers. Excellent communication skills and effective management of competing priorities. Customer focused: you’ve done the work to understand and solve customer problems, you’ve shipped software to avoid them. Ability to participate in a shared on-call rotation supporting production systems, including occasional after-hours, weekend, and holiday coverage, with responsibility for responding to critical alerts, coordinating escalations to restore service, and documenting issues to help prevent recurrence. Preferred Experience : You bring a learning mindset to the use of AI tools for software development and level up your peers through teaching. You’re enthusiastic about Lime's mission and micromobility; you want to see cities transform to become people-centric and less polluted. The base salary range listed reflects what Lime reasonably expects to offer for this role, with the final base salary determined by objective factors such as the candidate’s location and relevant skills and experience.
