Standards Enforcement Officer, 12 Month Contract Take Your CPA Career Beyond Traditional Practice - Join a Team that Drives Real Regulatory Impact. CPA Ontario is not like other organizations We operate at a rare intersection, both regulator and membership body, responsible for upholding the integrity of the CPA designation while supporting more than 105,000 members and 19,000 students across the province. Our work sits between business and the public interest, between the evolving demands of industry and the standards that make trust possible. Careers built here tend to look different because the work itself is different. You are not simply contributing to an organization. You are helping shape a profession that touches nearly every sector of the economy at a moment when expectations, technology, and the nature of work are all being rewritten. About This Opportunity: CPA Ontario is seeking a proactive, high-performing CPA to join our Standards Enforcement team as a Standards Enforcement Officer on a 12-month contract. Reporting to the Vice-President, Complaints and Investigations, you will lead investigations into allegations of professional misconduct, apply your technical and investigative expertise to complex regulatory matters, and contribute to strategic initiatives that support CPA Ontario's regulatory mandate and uphold the profession's high standards of integrity and accountability. What You’ll Be Doing: Lead preliminary investigations into complaints of professional misconduct involving CPA Ontario members, students, and firms, gathering and assessing relevant information, evidence, and supporting documentation from complainants and respondents. Serve as a technical accounting and assurance subject matter expert, providing professional guidance and insights throughout the investigative process. Analyze complaint-related materials, conduct research, and develop risk-based investigation plans to evaluate evidence and determine potential breaches of the CPA Code of Professional Conduct and, where applicable, the Student Code of Conduct. Prepare comprehensive reports, investigative summaries, and briefing materials that support decision-making by the Vice President, Complaints and Investigations, and the Professional Conduct Committee. Present investigation findings and reports to the Professional Conduct Committee, responding to inquiries and providing subject matter expertise as required. Lead and contribute to special projects and strategic initiatives that support CPA Ontario's regulatory mandate, organizational objectives, and commitment to professional excellence. Build collaborative relationships across the organization, partnering with internal stakeholders to advance regulatory, operational, and strategic priorities. Participate in committees, working groups, and task forces, providing expertise on matters related to professional conduct, regulatory oversight, and the operations of the Standards Enforcement department. To Be Successful You Need: A post-secondary degree and a CPA designation and membership in good standing with CPA Ontario. Professional credentials such as Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), Certified in Financial Forensics (CFF), Chartered Business Valuator (CBV), Master of Forensic Accounting (MFAcc), or Diploma in Investigative and Forensic Accounting (DIFA) are considered assets. At least 8 to 10 years of relevant professional experience, with a strong background in public accounting and regulatory or compliance environments. Experience leading or conducting forensic accounting engagements will be considered an asset. Exceptional attention to detail, strong analytical abilities and demonstrated experience in report writing, developing recommendations and applying sound professional judgment to complex issues. Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment, while effectively handling a diverse and complex caseload. Excellent collaboration, communication, and relationship-building skills, with confidence in public speaking, presenting to diverse audiences, and engaging with stakeholders. A proactive, solutions-focused mindset, coupled with initiative, adaptability, and a commitment to continuous learning and improvement. Strong digital proficiency, including advanced skills in Microsoft Office, SharePoint, and Salesforce; experience with Power BI or other data analytics tools is considered an asset. Salary Range The starting annual salary range for this position is between $103,700 - $129,600 per annum, based on your qualifications, experience, and internal parity. Exceptions may be considered with further review. Why Join CPA Ontario? We support your well-being through industry-leading benefits, mental health resources, savings programs, and a sustainable approach to how work gets done. We are committed to inclusion as a core part of how we operate, not as an afterthought. We have a hybrid working environment, with three days a week on-site, complemented by 2 days of work-from-home time. We are intentional about that: the work we do benefit from being together. We want those days you work from home to be comfortable and offer a one-time bonus towards a home office when you start. We invest in your growth through learning and professional development opportunities, stretch projects, secondments, and genuine paths for career progression. We move quickly. The pace reflects the profession we serve; it can be demanding, but the work matters, and the team around you is invested in the same outcomes you have. We appreciate your interest in CPA Ontario and this position At CPA Ontario, we are committed to building high-performance teams. Our selection process is thorough, fair and run by humans. All suitable applications are reviewed by someone on our Recruitment team, and if your qualifications and experience meet the requirements of this role, we’ll be in touch.
