Is this job info correct?

Company Description El Monde Engineering is a professional engineering firm focused on fast, efficient building permit approvals for residential projects across the Greater Toronto Area. The team specializes in permits for basement renovations and additional residential units, helping clients maximize the potential of their existing homes. From detailed engineering drawings to permit acquisition, the firm manages each step with precision and attention to detail. With a client-centered approach and proven track record, El Monde Engineering streamlines the permit process so property owners can move forward confidently and enjoy their newly improved spaces.

Role Description This is a remote, contract role for a Structural Engineer (P.Eng.) supporting residential projects, including basement renovations and additional dwelling units. The Structural Engineer will develop and review structural designs and calculations, prepare engineering drawings and specifications, and ensure compliance with applicable building codes, standards, and municipal requirements in the Greater Toronto Area. Day-to-day tasks include assessing existing structures, performing structural analysis for renovations and additions, and providing clear technical recommendations to optimize safety and space utilization. The role also involves coordinating with designers, contractors, and municipal reviewers, responding to permit comments, and updating documentation to facilitate timely approvals. The engineer will work independently, manage project timelines, and maintain accurate records of design decisions and professional engineering seals where required.

Qualifications

  • Professional Engineering (P.Eng.) license in Ontario, with demonstrated experience in structural engineering for low-rise residential or small buildings.
  • Proficiency in structural analysis and design for wood, steel, and concrete elements, including beams, columns, foundations, and load-bearing walls.
  • Experience preparing and reviewing detailed structural drawings, specifications, and construction documents using CAD or similar design tools.
  • Strong knowledge of Ontario Building Code, relevant CSA/Canadian standards, and municipal permitting processes for residential renovations and additional units.
  • Ability to assess existing structures, identify constraints, and provide practical engineering solutions that balance safety, cost, and space optimization.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills for explaining structural concepts to non-technical stakeholders and responding to permit review comments.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to handle multiple projects remotely and meet deadlines without close supervision.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (or equivalent), with prior consulting or design experience in residential projects considered an asset.
  • Familiarity with local GTA municipalities’ permit application platforms and processes is an advantage.
  • Commitment to ethical practice, attention to detail, and high-quality documentation suitable for permit submission.
