Job Title: Substation Designer Job Description This Substation Designer role focuses on supporting power delivery projects by designing and developing electrical substations that help ensure reliable, resilient, and sustainable power systems. You will collaborate closely with experienced engineers and scientists to shape how electricity is generated, transmitted, and delivered as global energy demands grow. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to grid modernization and infrastructure development while working in a supportive, inclusive, and employee-focused culture. Responsibilities Design and develop electrical substation layouts, components, and systems that support safe, reliable, and efficient power delivery. Collaborate with electrical engineers and other technical professionals to support substation engineering and power delivery projects. Apply substation engineering principles to support the generation, transmission, and delivery of electricity for a variety of projects, including grid modernization and infrastructure expansion. Support the preparation and review of substation design documents, drawings, and related technical materials. Contribute to projects that enhance the reliability, resilience, and sustainability of power systems for communities and industries. Work side by side with industry-recognized engineers and scientists to implement innovative design solutions for substation and power delivery systems. Coordinate work with team members across multiple office locations and participate in project meetings as needed. Adhere to internal design standards, quality expectations, and project timelines while supporting multiple concurrent assignments. Essential Skills Hands-on experience with substation design, including layouts, equipment, and associated electrical systems. Practical experience in substation engineering and power delivery projects. Background in electrical engineering or a closely related engineering discipline. Previous experience with Transmission and Distribution (T&D) or power projects, including substation-focused work. Ability to collaborate effectively with engineers, designers, and other technical staff in a team environment. Capability to commute and drive into an office in Phoenix, Tucson, or Albuquerque 2 to 3 times per week. Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate, high-quality design work. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience working on projects that involve modernizing transmission systems or other grid transformation initiatives. Familiarity with power sector practices related to the generation, transmission, and delivery of electricity. Interest in contributing to reliable, resilient, and sustainable power systems that support community and industrial growth. Ability to adapt to a hybrid work environment and collaborate effectively with distributed teams. Work Environment This role offers a hybrid work environment that combines in-office and remote work. You will work from an office located in Phoenix, Tucson, or Albuquerque, with the expectation to drive into the office 2 to 3 times per week and work remotely on the remaining days. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Albuquerque, NM. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $50.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
