Position Summary: We are seeking a skilled and service-oriented System Administrator to join our IT team. The System Administrator is responsible for the day-to-day administration, maintenance, security, and optimization of the organization's IT infrastructure. This role ensures the availability, performance, and reliability of systems that support employees, clients, and technology solutions within the post-secondary education sector. The ideal candidate has strong technical expertise, excellent troubleshooting skills, and a commitment to providing reliable technology services that enable teaching, learning, student success, and business operations. RESPONSIBILITIES include the following: Infrastructure Administration • Administer and maintain Windows and Linux servers in physical and virtual environments. • Manage Active Directory, Azure Active Directory (Microsoft Entra ID), Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, and related directory services. • Configure, monitor, and maintain virtualization platforms such as VMware or Hyper-V. • Maintain enterprise storage, backup, and disaster recovery solutions. • Perform server installations, upgrades, patch management, and system lifecycle management. Cloud Services • Administer Microsoft 365 services, including Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Teams, and OneDrive. • Support cloud infrastructure and identity management within Microsoft Azure. • Monitor cloud resources for performance, security, and cost optimization. Network Support • Assist with the administration of network infrastructure including switches, firewalls, wireless networks, and VPN connectivity. • Monitor network performance and troubleshoot connectivity issues. • Coordinate with network and security teams to maintain secure infrastructure. Security & Compliance • Implement and maintain security best practices for servers, endpoints, and cloud services. • Manage endpoint protection, vulnerability remediation, and system hardening. • Monitor system logs and security alerts. • Support compliance with organizational policies and applicable privacy and security standards. User Support • Provide Tier 2 and Tier 3 technical support for infrastructure-related issues. • Resolve escalated incidents within established service levels. • Support faculty, staff, administrators, and internal business units with technical solutions. • Participate in an on-call rotation as required. Monitoring & Maintenance • Monitor system availability, capacity, and performance. • Proactively identify and resolve infrastructure issues before they impact users. • Develop automation scripts to improve operational efficiency. • Maintain accurate system documentation, inventories, and configuration records. Project Participation • Participate in infrastructure modernization initiatives. • Assist with system migrations, upgrades, and technology implementations. • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support institutional technology projects. • Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend improvements. Education and Experience: Required Qualifications • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. • 3–5 years of experience as a System Administrator or in a similar infrastructure support role. • Experience administering Windows Server environments. • Experience with Microsoft 365 administration. • Experience with Microsoft Entra ID (Azure Active Directory). • Knowledge of virtualization technologies such as VMware or Hyper-V. • Experience with backup and disaster recovery solutions. • Strong understanding of TCP/IP networking fundamentals. • Experience with PowerShell or other scripting languages. • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills. • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Preferred Qualifications • Experience supporting organizations in the post-secondary education sector. • Experience with Learning Management Systems (LMS) integrations and educational technologies. • Experience with Azure infrastructure services. • Experience with Intune and endpoint management. • Familiarity with identity federation and single sign-on technologies. • Experience with enterprise monitoring tools. • ITIL Foundation certification. • Microsoft, VMware, or CompTIA certifications.
