We are looking for a Tax Manager with solid and recent experience in a professional tax advisory firm, Big Four, or specialized tax boutique.
This requirement is essential.
The role is designed for a professional who has built their career in a client-service environment, managing multiple accounts, reviewing technical work, developing tax strategies, interacting with corporate clients, and supervising tax teams.
Experience exclusively in an in-house corporate tax department will not be considered equivalent to the required firm background.
Key responsibilities
- Lead and review corporate and international tax advisory projects for local and multinational clients.
- Develop, analyze, and review tax strategies.
- Review federal tax calculations, annual returns, tax reports, refund procedures, and other tax filings.
- Prepare and review tax memoranda, technical opinions, consultations, and client recommendations.
- Advise clients on:
- mergers and corporate reorganizations,
- share transfers,
- capital reductions,
- dividend distributions,
- debt capitalization,
- cross-border transactions.
- Handle procedures and technical matters before Mexican tax authorities.
- Analyze complex tax issues under the Mexican Federal Tax Code, Income Tax Law, VAT Law, Miscellaneous Tax Resolution, and applicable international tax provisions.
- Advise foreign-invested and multinational companies on Mexican tax implications.
- Participate directly in client meetings and present technical conclusions and recommendations.
- Review the work of consultants and senior consultants.
- Supervise, coach, and develop tax professionals.
- Manage several clients, projects, deadlines, and deliverables simultaneously.
- Coordinate directly with partners and senior client stakeholders.
Mandatory professional background
- Bachelor’s degree in Public Accounting.
- Previous experience in a tax advisory firm is mandatory.
- Minimum 5 years of relevant experience, with a significant portion developed in:
- Big Four,
- tax consulting firms,
- accounting firms with a strong tax practice, or
- specialized tax boutiques.
- Proven experience managing multiple external clients simultaneously.
- Experience reviewing the work of other tax professionals.
- Strong background in Mexican corporate tax advisory, beyond routine compliance.
- Experience preparing and reviewing tax memoranda, opinions, consultations, and tax strategies.
- Exposure to corporate reorganizations, international taxation, foreign investment, or cross-border transactions.
- Strong client-facing and project-management capabilities.
- Advanced professional English is mandatory.
Why firm experience is required
This position requires a consulting mindset developed through direct exposure to multiple clients, industries, deadlines, technical issues, and stakeholders.
The successful candidate must already be comfortable with:
- managing a portfolio of clients,
- identifying additional tax risks and opportunities,
- defending technical conclusions,
- delivering advice rather than only executing compliance,
- reviewing work prepared by junior team members,
- managing competing deadlines,
- and interacting directly with Partners and senior client executives.
For this reason, candidates whose careers have been developed mainly in corporate in-house tax departments, general accounting, financial controlling, or transactional accounting will not be considered a direct match unless they also have substantial prior tax-firm experience.
English requirement
A significant portion of the client portfolio involves foreign or multinational companies.
The Tax Manager must be able to:
- conduct client meetings in English,
- explain Mexican tax implications and risks,
- discuss alternative tax treatments,
- defend technical positions,
- and draft or review professional tax communications.
Basic or intermediate English is not sufficient.
Profiles that are not aligned
This role is not intended for professionals whose experience is mainly focused on:
- in-house tax compliance without previous firm experience,
- general accounting,
- bookkeeping,
- accounts payable or accounts receivable,
- payroll,
- operational compliance only,
- transfer pricing as their primary specialization,
- tax litigation without corporate tax advisory exposure,
- financial controlling.
We are specifically looking for a Tax Manager trained in a professional services environment, with strong Corporate & International Tax expertise, client management, technical review, and team leadership experience.
