Job Title: Team Leader Business Area / Directorate: Business Operations, HMIE Location: Denholm House / The Optima Grade: B1 Advert Type: Temporary Promotion or Level Transfer Duration: 11 months maternity leave cover Eligibility: Expressions of interest are invited from eligible colleagues in bands A-C for this vacancy. Overview of Post The Team Leader for Business Operations will lead a small team responsible for the effective planning, coordination, and administration of HMIE inspections across Scotland. This role ensures that inspection activity is supported by robust operational systems, timely logistics, and high-quality administrative support, enabling HM Inspectors to deliver their work efficiently and consistently. Key Responsibilities Inspection Administration / Planning: Coordinate the scheduling and logistical planning of inspections, ensuring alignment with strategic priorities and resource availability. Team Leadership: Manage and support a team of administrative officers, providing guidance, training, and performance management to ensure high standards of delivery. Operational Oversight: Oversee the day-to-day business operations related to inspections, including travel arrangements, accommodation bookings, and document preparation. Process Improvement: Review and refine administrative processes to improve efficiency, consistency, and user experience for both internal teams and external stakeholders. Data Management: Ensure accurate recording and reporting of inspection data, including tracking progress, outcomes, and feedback. Stakeholder Liaison: Act as a key point of contact for internal and external stakeholders regarding inspection logistics and administration. Compliance and Standards: Ensure all inspection-related activities comply with HMIE protocols, Scottish Government policies, and data protection regulations. Support Systems: Work closely with digital and IT teams to maintain and improve systems used for inspection planning and reporting. Success Profile Experience: Proven experience in leading or supervising teams, with a focus on operational delivery and continuous improvement. Strong organisational and planning skills, with the ability to coordinate complex logistics and maintain attention to detail. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective relationships and provide clear guidance to staff and stakeholders. Demonstrable experience using digital systems and tools to support administration, scheduling, and reporting in a public sector or education environment. Working Pattern This post is a full-time role, but we welcome applications from staff with different working patterns, proposed working patterns will be assessed against the business requirements for this post.
