Tech Journalist

MediaNama (www.medianama.com) is looking to hire journalists to work with our editorial team, covering both technology policy and technology business. This is a specialized field, so please read the job description carefully before applying.

• Track and report:
• Current news and developments in technology policy (India and global) and technology business (India-focused, with relevant international coverage).
• Business operational, product, and financial news related to listed tech companies and unicorns.
• Policy and regulatory developments, including those at the UN, EU, Indian Parliament, Supreme Court, and High Courts.
• Tech policy and business developments related to digital payments, telecom, e-governance, gig economy, and global internet governance.
• Interpret judgments, regulatory filings, financial results, data, and other documents, and present insights in a concise and clear manner.
• Interview key policy and business stakeholders in the tech industry.

Organise & Participate:

• Prepare questions, help identify speakers, and report on MediaNama events (live tweeting, summaries, and post-event reports).
• Host or moderate MediaNama events when required.
  

Location: Delhi preferred (our office is in North Delhi). If remote, you must work from home.

Experience:

• 2-4 years of experience in journalism covering technology policy or business.
• Experience in understanding business, legal, policy, regulatory, and financial documents is preferred.
• Candidates with online journalism experience will be given preference.
• Passionate candidates with limited experience but deep understanding of the domain may also be considered.

Interests:

• Strong interest in technology’s intersection with business, policy, and regulation.
• Topics may include Internet access, commerce, telecom, digital payments, social media, the gig economy, e-governance, and global tech governance.
• Passion for understanding how these domains impact businesses, policymakers, and the broader public.

Skills Required

• A high standard of editorial judgment and writing ability.
• Ability to analyze and summarize complex business, legal or regulatory information effectively.
• Excellent time management skills
• Proven experience in delivering a mix of news and features content.
• Excellent command of the English language.
• You need to have basic working knowledge of HTML, and familiarity with WordPress.
• Comfort with working cross-platform, whether Slack, WhatsApp and/or phone calls.

Tech & Setup: Your own laptop with a functional webcam, audio setup, and a working Internet connection with a backup

Comfort with ambiguity: the news industry is dynamic, you need to be able to take decisions and iterate quickly. We are currently working with a hybrid WFH model, so expect ambiguity.

Remuneration: INR 40,000 – 60,000 per month
