Technical Lead

Description In this role, you will contribute to multiple projects simultaneously, applying your technical knowledge to solve problems, guide design decisions, and support overall project success. Your recommendations will help shape engineering outcomes and influence important design direction. While this position does not include direct people management, it offers meaningful leadership opportunities through technical mentorship, collaboration, and knowledge-sharing across teams. You will serve as a trusted advisor and reviewer, providing guidance, feedback, and quality assurance throughout the engineering process. What You’ll Do: Lead and perform detailed engineering design on a variety of projects Provide technical guidance and recommendations that inform key design decisions Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality, efficient solutions Review and validate engineering work to ensure accuracy and compliance with standards Serve as a technical resource and mentor for team members Support continuous improvement by sharing best practices and lessons learned What You Bring: Extensive experience in engineering design within your discipline Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make sound, informed decisions A collaborative mindset and ability to work effectively across teams Clear communication skills, with the ability to explain complex concepts to diverse audiences A commitment to quality, safety, and continuous improvement What You’ll Do Apply deep and well-rounded engineering expertise across a broad range of project assignments, ensuring high-quality, compliant, and efficient design solutions Provide technical leadership to engineering teams, serving as the lead for design-related decisions on medium to large, complex projects Partner with Project Managers and technical leadership to identify opportunities for process improvements, innovation, and enhanced design efficiency Maintain and grow your technical expertise by staying current with evolving tools, technologies, and industry practices Build and maintain strong relationships with internal teams, clients, and external partners to ensure alignment with current standards, regulatory requirements, and industry advancements Mentor and support the development of other engineers by providing guidance, training, and knowledge sharing related to engineering design and code compliance Support and uphold quality standards by contributing to and following ENTRUST’s quality control processes and procedures Contribute to a collaborative, inclusive team environment focused on continuous improvement and technical excellence What You Bring Experience & Education Associate degree in a technical field or a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering Technology (or a related discipline), with 8+ years of relevant experience OR 13+ years of relevant experience in the utility industry in place of a degree Technical Expertise Strong proficiency in engineering tools and platforms such as AutoCAD, GIS, EWMS, and related modeling software Deep understanding of engineering principles related to electric and/or gas utility design, including system planning, constructability, and code compliance Familiarity with industry standards and regulatory frameworks (e.g., NESC, NEC, DOT, and local utility requirements) Working knowledge of the full utility lifecycle, including design, permitting, construction, and QA/QC processes Awareness of emerging technologies, tools, and trends within utility engineering and infrastructure design Key Skills & Strengths Problem Solving: Able to analyze complex technical challenges, evaluate options, and deliver practical, effective solutions Technical Leadership: Provides guidance and influence across teams without formal direct reports, earning trust through expertise and collaboration Communication: Communicates complex technical concepts clearly and effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences Collaboration: Works cross-functionally with project teams, clients, and stakeholders to deliver successful outcomes Quality & Detail Orientation: Ensures accuracy and alignment with both client and ENTRUST standards and specifications Adaptability: Comfortable working across multiple projects and priorities in a dynamic environment Continuous Improvement: Identifies opportunities to improve processes, tools, and design quality Additional Capabilities Lead technical design efforts across multiple projects with minimal oversight Serve as a subject matter expert and technical reviewer for project deliverables Support client relationships by delivering high-quality work and responsive service Contribute to team development by mentoring and training others Navigate complex situations with professionalism, sound judgment, and composure
