About the Role

As Technical Platform & AI Lead, you will take ownership of Peopletree Group’s wider technology environment and help us use AI, automation and connected systems more effectively across our products and operations. This is a senior individual-contributor role combining Azure platform ownership, technical support, development coordination, AI enablement and internal-operations automation. Approximately 10–20% of your time will involve hands-on coding, scripting, configuration, troubleshooting and small production fixes. You will coordinate larger development projects and specialist work through team members and external partners.

The role is based in South Africa, reports to the Operations Director and is fully remote, with occasional in-person collaboration required.

What You’ll Do

Operational Efficiency

• Own and continuously improve our Azure-based applications, infrastructure, integrations and technical operating environment.
• Maintain a prioritised technical backlog based on customer feedback, internal testing, support requirements and business priorities.
• Act as the technical owner for product and platform issues, resolving problems directly or coordinating the appropriate internal or external support.
• Coordinate development projects alongside developers and specialist technology partners.
• Support identity and access management, monitoring, backups, cost management, business continuity and technical documentation.
• Maintain the technical controls and supporting evidence required for SOC 2 and related processes.
• Work closely with data specialists on shared databases, data processes and integrations.

Innovation and Learning

• Own and develop Peopletree Group’s use of Azure OpenAI and other AI tools within our products.
• Build or coordinate practical AI-enabled assistants, agents, integrations and automated workflows.
• Evaluate AI and automation opportunities based on data protection, security, reliability, cost.
• Help colleagues adopt approved AI-enabled tools and ways of working.

Customer Engagement

• Support internal teams during customer onboarding, product testing and technical incidents.
• Help turn customer requirements and feedback into clear technical priorities, requirements and acceptance criteria.
• Ensure technical issues are understood, prioritised, assigned and resolved with clear communication.
• Participate in technical discovery, integration, architecture and security discussions with customers.

Market Visibility & Revenue Enablement

• Improve internal revenue operations by connecting and automating workflows across marketing, sales, partnerships, customer success and delivery.
• Build or coordinate integrations, automation and reporting that improve pipeline visibility, lead and opportunity management, internal handovers and revenue performance.
• Identify where existing technology, off-the-shelf tools or specialist external support offer the most effective solution.
• Help ensure that our technology environment supports both an excellent customer experience and sustainable business growth.

What We’re Looking For

• A strong technical or software-development background, with experience working across cloud applications and technical platforms.
• Practical Microsoft Azure experience, including applications, infrastructure, integrations, identity, access, monitoring and deployment processes.
• Sufficient coding and scripting experience to automate tasks, build proofs of concept and deliver small production fixes.
• Experience with Azure OpenAI, applied AI or business-process automation, or a strong technical foundation for developing rapidly in these areas.
• A working understanding of information security, access controls, business continuity, technical documentation and compliance requirements such as SOC 2.
• Experience in SaaS, HR technology, talent management or another customer-facing technology environment would be advantageous.
• Comfortable working independently in a senior, hands-on role and providing reasonable support during priority incidents or approved release windows.
