Department Overview: The Digital Scholarship Hub at UW–Madison brings together a diverse and intellectually exciting community of scholars, librarians, technologists, and students to advance innovative research through computational methods, data exploration, and humanistic inquiry. The Hub's robust programming — spanning workshops, panels, and public events—reflects its commitment to cross-disciplinary collaboration and the use of technology to understand the world and improve it. This student assistant position is integral to maintaining, optimizing, and supporting the technological infrastructure that makes our programming possible. Anticipated Start Date: 09/02/2026 Anticipated End Date (If Applicable): Remote Work Eligibility Detail: Partially Remote Anticipated Hours Per Week: Minimum: 5 Maximum: 10 Schedule: This position is partially remote with a relatively flexible schedule and some required in-person work for specific event support. Salary/Wage Range/Lump Sum: Minimum: $15.00 Number of Positions: 1 Qualifications: The student should: - Be dependable, organized, detail-oriented, and accurate - Be able to multitask and prioritize technical and administrative projects. - Have a strong interest in technology and a willingness to learn new digital tools and skills. - Work well independently as well as in a collaborative, cross-disciplinary team environment. - Be able to communicate technical concepts clearly and effectively to diverse, non-technical audiences. - Maintain good academic standing for the duration of employment. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities : Familiarity with or an interest in learning the following is preferred but not required: - Productivity & Admin Tools: Google Suite, Microsoft Office Suite, and basic project management platforms. - Web & Marketing Tech: WordPress (basic web development/content editing) and Eloqua (or similar email marketing tools). - A/V Equipment: Basic setup for projectors, microphones, Zoom/hybrid meeting equipment, and troubleshooting. Note: On-the-job technical training will be provided for candidates who demonstrate strong curiosity and problem-solving skills. Position Summary/Job Duties: The Technology & Program Assistant will support both the operational and technical needs of the Hub. Possible responsibilities and areas of support include: - Technology Operations & Software Optimization: Research, test, implement, and optimize software solutions to support Hub programming (e.g., event registration platforms, digital sign-ins, and workflow tools). - Technical Needs Assessments: Assist in creating, distributing, and analyzing digital assessments to identify technology needs for both the Digital Scholarship Hub staff and its academic user community. - A/V and Event Tech Support: Provide hands-on A/V, hybrid-meeting setup, and general troubleshooting support for onsite and remote events. - Digital Scholarship Training Support: Contribute to the planning, digital resource preparation, technical execution, and feedback assessment of digital scholarship workshops and training sessions. - Web Development & Communications: Assist in updating and developing the Hub’s website and digital platforms (primarily WordPress) to ensure accessibility, ease of use, and effective program marketing. - Data & Program Reporting: Maintain, clean, and evaluate digital registration and event attendance data to support program reporting. - Administrative & Office Support: Perform general office tasks, run campus errands, and coordinate logistics as assigned to keep the Hub running smoothly. Physical Demands: The physical demands include being able to use a computer to work on assigned tasks and assisting with events including assisting including moving furniture and A/V equipment.
