Position Summary The UNM-Taos Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences invites applicants to apply for a Temporary Part-Time Faculty (Adjunct) member to teach Early Childhood Education courses for Fall Semester 2026. This posting is primarily for weekly zoom instruction and usage of our canvas platform. These positions will be hired on an as needed basis dependent on student enrollment, course offering matrix, and graduation requirements. The specific courses include, but are not limited to, the following: ECED 2115 Introduction to Language, Literacy and Reading: This course is designed to prepare early childhood professionals for promoting children’s emergent literacy and reading development. Through a developmental approach, the course addresses ways in which early childhood professionals can foster young children’s oral language development, phonemic awareness, and literacy problem solving skills, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. This course provides the foundation for early childhood professionals to become knowledgeable about literacy development in young children. Instructional approaches and theory-based and research-based strategies to support the emergent literacy and reading skills of native speakers and English language learners will be presented. Please note as of the NM Legislation 2025, this course must also include extensive preparation in Structure Literacy & the Science of Reading. We propose a base salary of $1,157.97 to $1,240.17 per credit hour depending on successful candidates’ qualifications. This posting is for both face to face and remote delivery of courses. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: To teach or develop courses in the field or subfield for which you are applying are determined by Higher Learning Commission’s accreditation requirements for faculty, and must be met in these ways: · Master’s degree in early childhood or an appropriate subfield, or other academic preparation that includes coursework at least one level above the courses being taught. Faculty may also be qualified through a combination of academic credentials, progress toward credentials, or equivalent tested experience, as determined by institutional policy. When the master’s degree is in another discipline, a minimum of 18 graduate credit hours in the teaching discipline or subfield is typically used to establish qualification. · Certification in the Science of Reading (PreK) · Minimum of three years’ experience teaching young children (birth to 8 years) Preferred Qualifications: · Successful teaching experience in a post-secondary institution, particularly a community college. · Demonstrated experience in remote delivery of instruction. · A demonstrated commitment to cultivate an understand of the rich and varied cultures of New Mexico and to the success of the university's mission to serve local and global communities. · In addition to PreK Certification in the Science of Reading, certification up to 3 rd grade. · Minimum of three years of leadership experience in early childhood education (birth to age 8) Application Instructions Only applications submitted through the official UNMJobs site will be accepted.
