SFOC's Japan team supports the organization's communications and research outputs, translating complex climate and energy topics into clear, engaging content for stakeholders in Japan and globally.
We work across reports, publications, events, and digital channels to build SFOC's visual identity and presence in the Japanese market.
How You'll Contribute
Design visual materials that align with organizational objectives, including reports and publications (layout, infographics, data visualization), event materials (banners, posters, presentation slides), and social media graphics, digital assets, and branding materials.
Collaborate with research and communications teams to visualize key messages.
Translate complex technical content into clear and accessible graphics.
Develop and maintain SFOC's visual identity in Japan.
Support the creation of presentations and external communications materials.
Explore new formats and experiment with creative content beyond routine design work.
Who We're Looking For
Minimum 1-3 years of professional design experience, with proven ability to translate key messages into visual language.
Strong portfolio including editorial design, infographics, and event materials.
Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop).
Solid design capability, holistically considering layout, typography, color, and information hierarchy.
Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects.
Strong communication skills to collaborate with diverse stakeholders (internal teams, external partners) and align on design direction.
Business-level proficiency in English or Japanese (both preferred but not required).
Nice to Have
Interest or experience in climate, sustainability, or energy topics.
Video editing or motion graphics skills (Premiere Pro, After Effects, etc.).
Experience working with data-heavy or research-based content.

Workplace: hybrid, Tokyo office. Possible assignment to overseas offices, 4+ business trips per year including to Korea, and remote work available.
Compensation: annual salary starting from JPY 4.2 million, negotiable based on prior salary and experience. Annual salary system with no bonus; discretionary labor system applied, including overtime allowance equivalent to 40 hours per month.
Working hours: 9:00 to 18:00 (8 hours/day), flexible working system available. Holidays are Saturdays, Sundays, and national holidays. Paid leave is 20 days per year, prorated in the first year based on start date.
Benefits: social insurance coverage (health insurance, welfare pension, employment insurance, workers' compensation insurance), annual health check up subsidy, self development allowance of up to JPY 120,000 per year on a reimbursement basis, company laptop provided, and paid overtime meals for in office overtime work.
The role begins as a 1-year contract, with the possibility of a 1-year extension based on team feedback. Conversion to a permanent position will be considered after 2 years of continuous employment. Working visa sponsorship is available for successful candidates where needed. The employment contract will be managed through an EOR (Employer of Record) provider.
