About the role:
Do you enjoy navigating international trade environments while ensuring goods move compliantly and efficiently across borders?
Based in Johannesburg, our Trade Compliance Specialist plays a key role in ensuring compliance with customs, trade, and export control regulations across South Africa. Working closely with internal stakeholders, customs authorities, freight forwarders, and clearing agents, you'll drive the compliant and efficient movement of goods while providing expert guidance on customs processes, tariff classification, export controls, and import regulations.

The impact you’ll make:
Manage operational activities related to customs and Export Control
Act as a helpdesk for internal customs inquiries and provides functional support for Customs (system) internal and external
Arrange customs clearance for imports and exports
Facilitate weekly import meetings with internal stakeholders and clearing agents, to coordinate upcoming imports and identify risks or challenges
Check the correctness of all shipping documents e.g. BOL, AWB Invoice
Monitor and audit import and export customs entries for accuracy as part of an internal audit program, e.g. tariff codes, exchange rates, VDN compliance, customs value, Incoterms, etc.
Identify duty-saving opportunities and strategically leverage Free Trade Agreements, duty drawback schemes, and cost-saving opportunities to improve the bottom line
Participate in customs audits and support in projects
Maintain and update Export Control master data, ensuring accuracy and compliance with applicable regulations
Support inbound and outbound activities of the DC
The skills and knowledge you’ll bring:
Bachelor's degree in relevant departments
3 years of experience in in Customs, Trade Compliance, and Import/Export Operations
Strong knowledge of customs processes and international trade flows, covering the end-to-end movement of physical goods from suppliers to end customers
Solid understanding of Trade Compliance principles, with advanced knowledge of South African customs regulations and import/export requirements
Ability to prioritize critical issues and drive timely resolution based on business impact
Excellent stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence, collaborate, and build strong relationships across internal and external partners
