Gloucestershire County Council is looking for a highly motivated Traffic Signals Technician to join our Network and Traffic Management team.

About The Team

This is an exciting opportunity to support the management, maintenance and development of the county's traffic signal assets, intelligent transport systems and telematics infrastructure. Working closely with our term maintenance contractor, local authorities, developers and key stakeholders, you will help ensure Gloucestershire's traffic signal network operates safely, efficiently and reliably for all road users.

About The Role

As a Traffic Signals Technician, you will play a key role in supporting the delivery and performance of Gloucestershire's traffic signal assets and intelligent transport systems (ITS).

You Will

Assist in managing the Traffic Signals Term Maintenance Contract and monitor contractor performance.

Coordinate maintenance activities and ensure faults are resolved efficiently.

Support the operation of UTC/SCOOT systems, remote monitoring systems and fault management platforms.

Investigate and respond to reports of signal faults and requests for alterations from residents and stakeholders.

Assist with budget monitoring and reporting.

Work with district, parish and town councils to manage expectations regarding signal operation.

Liaise with developers, consultants, emergency services, the Department for Transport and other stakeholders.

Support the review of traffic signal and ITS designs to ensure compliance with national and county standards.

Participate in Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) of new signal installations.

Assist in developing innovative approaches, technologies and data-led solutions to improve network performance.

About You

We are seeking a proactive and technically capable individual with experience in traffic signals, highways technology or related engineering disciplines.

You Will Ideally Have

Essential Skills and Experience

Experience working within a traffic signals, highways technology or intelligent transport systems environment.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Experience producing reports, analysing data and presenting findings.

Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

Ability to manage competing priorities and work effectively under pressure.

Strong organisational skills with excellent attention to detail.

Good IT and database skills.

A commitment to road safety and continuous improvement.

Desirable

Experience of traffic signal design, operation or maintenance.

Knowledge of LinSig modelling software.

Experience of UTC/SCOOT, MOVA or UTMC systems.

Database Management Qualifications.

Knowledge of highway legislation and traffic management practices.

Full UK driving licence.
