Utilities and developers face growing queues, long timelines, and costly upgrades that slow progress across the grid. Camus enables flexible grid connections that allow new load and generation to connect sooner by planning for and operating within real system constraints. Our platform bridges the gap between grid operators and large load developers, providing a view of time-varying grid capacity for any given new interconnection point. We combine high-reliability software experience from companies like Google and Meta with deep power systems expertise across the utility sector. Role Overview We’re seeking an experienced Transmission Planning and Modeling Engineer to join our Product Team to support the growth of our rapidly expanding flexible interconnection product. This role expands upon existing utility planning and analysis approaches to support a new interconnection model that addresses one of the principal challenges of our industry: rapid integration of unprecedented data center and industrial load growth. The successful candidate will combine a strong technical foundation with an innovative, problem-solving mindset to support the expansion of the planning product required to analyze how flexible interconnections can be structured to achieve speed-to-power while maintaining/enhancing transmission reliability. You will be responsible for integrating a variety of utility data sets to construct and run time series powerflow models. Working closely with Engineering and Customer Success teams, you’ll integrate these data sets in the Camus platform (and other industry models) and execute the analysis. Additionally, you will help shape product development for our flexible interconnection planning platform, including input on product roadmap, capability definition, and drafting of product specifications and requirements. The problems we are addressing are new and don’t have known solutions. We work together as a team to rapidly develop products that address these critical needs. What you’ll do: Perform modeling and technical analyses to evaluate proposed data center/large load sites for flexible interconnections, such as: Contingency analyses Production cost model simulations Probabilistic scenario analyses Inform and shape the product roadmap for flexible interconnection planning and operations In collaboration with Camus’ Customer Success team, engage with data center and utility customers to evaluate and implement flexible interconnections. Work with our utility customers/partners to evaluate and understand utility data sets so that they can be integrated into the Camus platform. Collaborate with Camus’ Customer Success and Engineering teams to integrate utility-specific transmission models, GIS data, and time series data into the Camus platform. Stay informed on the regulatory and policy landscape around large load interconnection processes for the relevant utility and/or ISO/RTO regions of focus Inform development of the operational model supporting flexible interconnections in utility and ISO/RTO operations Document product capabilities and requirements that support the analysis and adoption of flexible interconnections in the transmission system What you’ll bring 7+ years in the utility industry (at a utility or adjacent consulting or academic roles) with a focus on transmission interconnections and planning analyses Masters or PhD in power systems or electrical engineering, or equivalent industry experience with a demonstrated ability to understand the technical foundations for transmission modeling and analysis Experience with AC power flow simulations and contingency analyses in PSS/E, TARA, PSLF or other commonly used modeling platforms and a demonstrated ability to learn new modeling platforms Experience running production cost models in PROBE, PLEXOS, SAInt or other commonly used modeling platforms and a demonstrated ability to learn new modeling platforms Experience with SQL and/or Python scripting that support data analysis and process automation Inquisitive nature that drives data investigation and establishing relationships between utility data sets and time series data Passionate about transforming the grid and making an impact on climate change High integrity and low ego - you are self motivated to do your best work and collaborate well with others What We Offer Competitive base salary Comprehensive benefits, including 401k and FSA Fully remote workplace with options for in office work in the Bay Area Flexible PTO, which we encourage you to use! 12 weeks fully paid parental leave A real impact on climate change - we’re building the world we want to live in and we want you to join us!
