Unpaid Internship - Cybersecurity for development Internship Vacancy notice no: 2381 Sector: BDT Department: DNE Country of contract: Remote Duty station: Home Based Position number: [[positionNumber]] Grade: [[PositionGrade]] Type of contract: Internship Duration of contract: from 4 to 6 months Recruitment open to: External Application deadline (Midnight Geneva Time): 08 October 2026 ORGANIZATIONAL UNIT The Telecommunication Development Bureau (BDT) is responsible for the organization and coordination of the work of the Telecommunication Development Sector of the Union. BDT deals mainly with development policies, strategies, programming, projects, as well as technical cooperation activities to enable and foster universal access to affordable, high-quality and secure telecommunications/ICTs and Foster equitable and inclusive use of telecommunications/ICTs to empower people and societies for sustainable development. To effectively and efficiently serve the needs of Member States, BDT is organized into four functional areas: Operations Coordination Department (Office of the Deputy to the Director) (DDR) Projects, Partnerships & Digital Skills Department (PPS) Digital Networks & Environment Department (DNE) Digital Knowledge Society Department (DKS) The Digital Networks & Environment Department (DNE) is responsible to assist the Member States, especially the G77 countries, in a wide range of ICT development challenges, as basic connectivity, spectrum management, evolution of current to future broadband networks and technologies, enabling universal and affordable access, and strengthening the security through the cybersecurity support. In addition, the DNE Department provides expertise and needed support for emergency telecommunications and the increasingly important and urgent aspects related to the environment and climate change. TERMS OF REFERENCE ITU is seeking two interns to support the fourth edition of the Her CyberTracks and other initiatives under the Women in Cyber programme. Under the supervision of the Women in Cyber project manager, the intern will be key in the successful implementation of the Women in cyber projects and initiatives the interns will: - Provide general support and project management to the Project lead. - Support the implementation of Her CyberTracks project, notably with the development and delivery of trainings, career development materials, and organization of networking meetings and related events. - Support the coordination, communication for the mentors and mentees of Her CyberTracks. - Support the communications function by drafting news-pieces, testimonials, presentations and updating/editing of event collateral. Maintenance and editing of online program and events (collect bios, profile photos, sponsor's logos, company profiles, quality checks, etc.). - Contribute to data collection and analysis on trends related to women in cybersecurity, including participation, skills development, and career pathways, to inform project design and impact assessment, as well as other related initiatives. - Contribute to background research and support the design and development of new activities and initiatives under the Women in Cyber programme. - Support the preparation of analytical briefs, reports, and presentations for internal use and external partners, synthesizing insights for ongoing Women in Cyber project and activities. COMPETENCIES Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks, follow timelines, and support the delivery of events and project activities. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both verbal and written; Teamwork and collaboration: Ability to work effectively in a multicultural team environment and coordinate with a range of stakeholders; Client and Service Orientation. Excellent research and analytical skills: Ability to conduct background research, synthesize information, and contribute to data collection and analysis related to women in cybersecurity trends. Strong command of Microsoft Office Tools. QUALIFICATION REQUIRED Education : Currently enrolled in, or recently graduated from, a bachelor's or Master's degree in a relevant field such as International Relations, Political Science, Development Studies, or a related discipline. Experience : No work experience required. Languages : Advanced level of English. REMUNERATION INFORMATION Unpaid internship ADDITIONAL INFORMATION The internship will be carried out remotely. Please note that a non-remunerated internship at ITU does not carry the same conditions of employmentas a short-term or fi xed-term position. Medical insurance, travel, accommodation, and living expenses arethe responsibility ofthe intern or their sponsoring institution. ITU Internship Requirements To be eligible for an internship at the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), candidates must: • Be under 30 years of age (Exceptions may be considered for candidates pursuing a Ph.D.). • Be currently enrolled in an undergraduate, graduate, or post-graduate programme, or be a recent graduate(within six months prior to the start of the internship). • Be a citizen of a Member State of ITU.
