Role Description The Utilities Locator is a full-time remote role responsible for identifying, marking, and documenting underground utilities to support survey and engineering projects. Day-to-day tasks include reviewing project plans, using locating equipment and geospatial tools to determine the position of utilities, and accurately recording utility information in digital systems. The role involves communicating findings to project managers, engineers, and field teams, and ensuring work is performed in accordance with safety standards and applicable regulations. The Utilities Locator will collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to resolve discrepancies, support project planning, and help prevent utility damage. Although the position is remote, the role may require coordination with on-site teams and occasional travel to project locations, depending on client needs.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of utilities, the utility industry, and basic principles of Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE).
• Practical experience with excavation, utility locating practices, and safe digging procedures.
• Strong computer literacy, including use of mapping, GIS, and data entry or reporting software.
• Effective communication skills for working with project managers, field crews, and clients.
• Attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and ability to interpret plans and technical drawings.
• Understanding of safety regulations related to underground utilities; commitment to safe work practices.
• Ability to work independently in a remote environment, manage time well, and meet project deadlines.
• Relevant experience in surveying, geospatial services, or utility locating; industry certifications are a plus.
• High school diploma or equivalent required; additional technical training or coursework in surveying, engineering, or GIS is beneficial.
