Role Purpose The Video Engineer connects customer support, product, engineering and technical content creation. The role supports the delivery, quality control, and technical troubleshooting of video content across TV and digital platforms. Working within the Customer Experience team and alongside internal and external stakeholders, this role provides day-to-day technical assistance on QC and transcode workflows, helping to maintain broadcast-standard output while developing deeper expertise in the tools and standards that underpin it. Main duties will include resolving customer issues, configuring complex media workflows and working with the engineering team to further integrate and optimise our usage of digital media, considering possible uses of AI to increase the ability of the team to deliver. Customer support: provide technical assistance to clients and partners, providing timely resolutions to streaming and encoding issues, including taking part in an on-call rota for occasional out-of-hours cover. Continuous learning: shadow senior peers, pick up new technologies, and take on increasingly complex engineering challenges as your skills develop. Knowledge sharing and training of peers, with a focus on creating documentation and content in a variety of formats Undertake any other duties as may reasonably be required by the business to support the team’s objectives. Key Deliverables Assist with the day-to-day support of Telestream Vidchecker and Vantage products, escalating complex issues to senior peers as needed Customer support tickets and technical queries resolved to a high standard and within agreed timeframes Custom workflows and integration tests that support the client and technical partner conversations A growing library of clear, well-produced explainer videos supporting product and documentation. Help create, maintain, and update QC profiles using industry-standard tools (e.g. Vidchecker) Help create, maintain, and update transcode profiles using industry-standard tools (e.g. Vantage) Increasing automation across the Media management platform Build and maintain a comprehensive library of video test assets that enable the engineering team to develop, test, and validate new features across a wide range of media scenarios. Qualifications Education A relevant qualification or coursework in video/broadcast engineering or a related field is a plus, but not essential. Skills and Competencies Experience Some hands-on exposure to video workflows — through study, personal projects, internships or an entry-level role — is welcome Comfortable being part of an on-call rota for occasional out-of-hours support. Working knowledge of video formatting requirements for TV and digital platforms (codecs, wrappers, frame rates, aspect ratios, closed captions/subtitles) Basic understanding of the UK broadcast industry and its delivery standards (e.g. DPP, BBC/ITV/Channel 4 delivery specs) Understanding of subtitle formats Technical Skills Baseline understanding of video formats, containers and codecs (e.g. ProRes, XDCAM, AVCi, MXF/MOV) Familiarity with transcoding tools such as Telestream Vantage, FFmpeg or cloud-based encoding services is a strong plus Windows Administration experience is desirable Knowledge of Version Control, especially Git is desirable Basic scripting abilities e.g Powershell, Batch, Python Some hands-on experience with QC tools (Vidchecker, Baton, Interra, or similar) is desirable Soft Skills Excellent written and verbal communication - able to explain technical concepts clearly to customers and colleagues. Compensation Package Salary Up to £35,000 per year DOE Holiday 25 days per year, plus bank holidays (and we close between Christmas and New Year which is gifted on top of annual leave) Remote work & hours Snicket Labs is a fully remote company. Our team is spread through the UK and abroad. We meet up occasionally for meetings and socials, but your day-to-day will be from home. Our normal working hours are 9am to 6pm, with core hours of 10am to 5pm. However, within core hours people often have things they need to take care of (such as the school run) and we’re flexible to this; all we need is a heads-up in Slack that you’re going to be away and for how long, simple. Equipment A MacBook Pro/Air, monitor, keyboard, mouse. If you require any special equipment for any health reason we can provide it and do our best to ensure your working environment is as comfortable as possible. Training budget We value learning and we offer a £1,000 per year training budget, with set reading and training days. You can agree with your manager how you’d like this to be used and we do expect you to use it. Additional days are available if speaking at an event where you represent Snicket Labs. Pension Snicket Labs operates a company pension scheme through SmartPension. This constitutes an employer contribution of 3% of your annual salary and an employee contribution of 5%. The employee contribution is collected through our salary sacrifice scheme, and therefore is not subject to National Insurance.
